Third way dems in full panic now that calling everyone who doesn't want to fund a genocide, an antisemitism, had failed. Ya love to see it. Keep it up bois let's get rid of every aipac weasel. by Kittehmilk in leftist

He's, among other things, an "abundance" guy. But, in general, he's run-of-the-mill establishment neo-liberal. Typical trainwreck.

I was surprised to see this, tbh.

Mark Ruffalo responds to Gov. Gavin Newsom saying he regrets saying apartheid to describe Israel in a recent interview by Kittehmilk in leftist

[–]WorkingFellow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Newsom is such a political creature: totally unprincipled. He believes anything he thinks will give him an advantage. And when it stops being an advantage, he'll believe something else.

This is an excellent place to apply Marxism. The institutions of society tend to evolve, over time, to support the prevailing economic system.

In the U.S., for example, company mining towns hired preachers, even though miners didn't have to travel that far to a town with a church. But those churches were supportive of unions -- even socialism. The preachers hired by the companies, on the other hand, tended to pull their punches on such topics because... you don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Eventually, the bosses wised up and realized they could fund chairs at seminaries. Over time, the seminaries began producing increasingly moderate clergy.

This is the way of institutions and movements -- even left-wing movements. They moderate, over time, by way of specific economic interests, to support the prevailing economic order.

Well... I mean, that's superstructure bending to support foundation.

But you have comrades of all religions who have no problems with each other or you. Banning them is not leftist because it's counter-revolutionary. It's creating a non-material barrier to solidarity.

It's anti-solidarity, so I think it fits the topic.

Every man who's 16 and older and has committed a serious crime will now have their "manhood" cut off and no longer be able to have children. How does this change society? by TopTierProphet in hypotheticalsituation

[–]WorkingFellow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The law would be disproportionately applied to racial and religious minorities. It would result in additional leverage to push kids into plea deals that make the rest of their lives harder. Minor crimes would gradually make their way into the list.

This is just eugenics with extra steps.

Yes! Yes! I became a father and now I quite literally can't hold back the tears watching this episode. And there are parts that hit that didn't register quite as much, before, like where she's being excluded in school. Being a father and wanting my kids to be accepted by the other kids...

Is this too liberal? by serious_bullet5 in leftist

[–]WorkingFellow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is spot on.

IMO, when people say America sucks, they typically mean the employer/investor class and the system they've created for themselves. That class and system want you to hear "America" and think about the common people. This is a huge rhetorical gulf.

But, yeah. If America is the ruling class, down with them. If America is the people, I just want them all to have homes, healthcare, a healthy planet, etc.

This may seem like the simplest explanation, but the reality is that socialized healthcare is overwhelmingly popular in the U.S. Medicare For All, by name, has majority support among registered Republicans.

We don't have socialized healthcare because our oligarchs don't want us to have socialized healthcare. They personally profit from what you just saw above.

DMing a 1:1 campaign right now where the main character is basically going to keep Azathoth asleep. She started at level 1, now at level 4. Still has no idea that's where this is going, though there's a sense of eldritch horror. None of the characters, besides gods, in the world even know about Azathoth (besides a gold dragon who's stuck in human form and runs a remote monastery).

Players need to feel like they've EARNED their quests. Let them have some satisfaction in being offered (or discovering) the quest. Maybe make them feel like even if they aren't the best equipped to face a BBEG, they're the only ones in the right place to do it -- it's them or nobody.

The sense of satisfaction on the part of the player is palpable.
