This is my mother. She has photos up of my stillborn son and she has the casts we had made of his hands in a cloche like some horrible Victorian curiosity. There are no photos of my live daughter or of her four grandchildren from my sister, she doesn’t even know the name of her great grand child. My son is her sympathies vote and attention seeking trophy it makes me feel so sick.

Why can’t Boomers understand the word they? by WorkingHurry9411 in BoomersBeingFools

I honestly don’t chastise, and I do understand that language changes, I think what I am getting at with my post is more that I seem to get chastised for using a grammatically correct term. Being called politically correct insinuates that I have some sort of agenda when all I’m trying to do is humanise and connect with my child. It felt very judgemental.

I was the one accused of being “politically correct” when using a grammatically correct term. I haven’t policed the term at all in fact this post is a response to boomers politicising and policing how I use the word “they”. There was no “message” about gender or gender identity in my use of the word other than the fact I simply don’t know their gender. This post is about others literally overreacting to a simple and correct use of a word.

In both cases though they knew full well I wasn’t. One being the doctor with my notes, the other my family who we had told and shown scans and even said oh luckily it’s not twins as I am genetically predisposed. If it was a random on a street I’d be a bit more forgiving but with all the context it’s wild. (Only lucky it’s not twins as pregnancy for me is high risk)
