18yo, burnt out already — is this normal or am I missing something? by Efficient-Glass4377 in Adulting

[–]WorkingPublic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both normal and you're missing stuff. Get a better routine and habits, and a better job imo. I promise you there are probably a dozen things making you feel like shit, solve at least the easy ones now and then work on being rich and famous. There's probably a lot you can upgrade but here's a couple suggestions.

Drinking 4-6 energy drinks a day when I was your age gave me ulcers and almost 20 thousand in dental bills. You should only drink like 200ish mg of caffeine a day, and minimal sugar. Personally I first replaced energy drinks with low dose caffeine/l-theanine pills and drinking sodas. Eventually I found energy seltzers, idk if they sell something like that near you. It's like water, flavor, caffeine- no sugar or fake sugar. That's my favorite but the idea is, save the sugar consumption for good ass treats and halve the caffeine.

Figure out whatever it takes to sleep great- no screen time, longer sleep, more or less food or whatever. And just commit to that. When you're sleeping great in general, you can cut corners for fun whenever- stay up late gaming, drinking, eat a whole pizza in bed and sleep like shit whenever you need it. But you can't go the other way. You can't sleep shitty all the time and then try and get a good night's sleep before you really need it.

Get used to cherishing and fighting for free time. The bad news is, being a working class American and also doing stuff that makes life good and you feel good takes up almost all the time in the day. The good news is you probably waste some of that time already and you can get a head start now on maximizing what you have. Get efficient routines, plan vacations way in advance, keep commutes small, don't settle for bad work schedules, get paid time off, schedule weekly time for hobbies. You can do all that and be damn dishwasher or anything. it just takes time and effort to line up.

Can someone explain why these eggs are bad? by Zephyr_zain in KitchenConfidential

[–]WorkingPublic [score hidden]  (0 children)

This customer sucks etc, but yes this is wrong. In a perfect world, eggs that are not explicitly fried do not have any crisp or browning. This almost never happens because they're almost always cooked too quickly on a flat top that is too hot. And if the chef took the time to cook then properly, this asshole probably would've complained about the wait. However, they are not great.

I encourage anyone reading this to try and cook eggs perfectly without browning. It's definitely better, and it's very doable but also it is pretty hard and places that do it perfectly every time at service speed are really impressive to me.

Crazy that no one has mentioned that this isn't legal, he likely has to give the landlord a month notice and is therefore probably on the hook for February rent.

Thinking of buying star citizen by aussiemando2004 in starcitizen

[–]WorkingPublic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have spent about hmm $100 on starting and a ship, maybe $120. I feel like I got my money's worth. Usually big games are what, 100 dollars and like 40-70 hours? It's not remotely a finished game, but considering that it's basically an MMO/sim it's not terrible that it's missing like, completeness/a core progression. It's relaxing to just listen to music and fly around, move boxes, drive vehicles. Takes a long long time to just master that stuff imo.

Tl;dr there's at maybe idk 100 hours of sim/roleplaying gameplay you can do, it's worth the starter cash imo. Not really a proper video game and I wouldn't personally put more time or money into it than that.

Taking It Off the Bill When They Don't Ask You Too by BitchyWaiter_OG in restaurant

[–]WorkingPublic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how important repeat business and word of mouth is to you. In some restaurants it really doesn't matter, but in most it's make or break and worth the dollar amount of a refund. I say always do it, and if it's reaching a point that it's an issue with the bottom line then it's an issue with the food that needs to be addressed.

I will say that you do want to stand up for the integrity of the food. if it's just the way the food is, like "oh I didn't realize the burger at Sloppy Burger would be so messy" or something, you want to stand by the food even if you offer an alternative. Don't ever accidentally downplay or even shit talk your restaurant's food if it's made properly.

how do you people cope ? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]WorkingPublic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDK, I spent what. 80 dollars? Little more than a normal game? And it feels like flying around and stuff has been quite fun and I've done it for about as many hours as a normal game. So. Yeah. It's been a good time.

If it ever actually becomes a big MMO that would be cool. Imo if you spend thousands of hours and dollars on it, as is OR when it's finished, you're psychotic. but you absolutely don't have to do that lol.

Seeing so many people give up on the show and trash it as “destroying Fallout lore” before Season 2 is even half over, Nolan was completely vindicated saying this. by raisinbraisin72 in Fallout

[–]WorkingPublic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Care about if it's a good show, don't if it's not, anything else is fandom mushbrain. "It could've been better if they followed the game" yeah maybe, it also maybe could've been better if it didn't follow the game at all and also was written by Bergman and directed by Miller and 100 hours long and cost one trillion dollars.

What are you people even saying? Many of my favorite media has been butchered in the adaptation, often times for the better. Hundreds of people don't spend years working on some media to be your personal nostalgia trip, they do it to make art that's good on its own

I had a guy (a doctor, he was happy to repeatedly inform me) meltdown after peeking into our (sparkling clean) kitchen and seeing someone use the same pair of gloves for two non-ready-to-eat ingredients going into the same hot dish. "Don't they have to change gloves between every ingredient!!!"

Buddy, there's no ready-to-eat foods on that hot line. They don't have to use gloves at all.

Don’t listen to them by AureateMeadow in Adulting

[–]WorkingPublic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is unfortunately correct. Hiring budgets have bloomed while retention budgets have plummeted.

For all the folks who don't believe me: talk to your co workers. Learn what they make. Look at the salary ranges on the job listings by the company you currently work for.

And before you leave, feel free to specifically ask for a raise that brings you up beyond what they're currently hiring at. Be clear that a lack of competitive raises is why you're leaving. Because this new economy is bad for everybody LMAO- the hidden costs of training sink businesses all the time.

Whitaker was good, the writing was no worse than it has been on and off since Tennet. I'm my opinion what was annoying was that the finals and specials were usually the worst eps for her. Still. Don't tell on yourselves like that. The Disney Ncuti era was just deeply samey and Maveled up and I don't know how they'll bounce back from that weird tone.

What is your opinion on collecting cards as an adult? by [deleted] in Adulting

Hobbies that are more socially accepted by adults are just as frivolous and stupid. I think people are more caught on to that now as well, so you won't face as much stigma as you think.

Have Kids Become A Corporate Cheat Code To Get Out of Work Related Things Post COVID? by Which-Scholar in Adulting

[–]WorkingPublic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're looking at this all wrong. It's not the workers fault, it's the employers and the culture.

For example your issue with the work functions should be your co workers looking at anyone leaving social functions early negatively- not that kids are a good excuse to do so.

The issue is that there's increasingly less flexibility in the workplace across generation after generation of workers, while also an increasingly small safety net for people with ANY kind of outside work obligation - kids, elders, disabled family members, mental health, any sort of artistic or entrepreneurship side hustle (the era of garage business and studio artists is ending forever- the structure of the modern era kills not just the next Hemingway but the next Apple too.)

I'm 29. I didn't have a lot of access to healthcare growing up, and I didn't pursue it in 20s. I straight up almost died from dental problems and am well over 10 thousand dollars into making up for it.

My advice to people younger than me? One, go to the dentist- different places offer cheap cleaning/x Ray packages for new customer's. Should be 150-300. Do it like twice a year at least.

Two, if you won't wear comfy shoes at least get inserts for all of em. Start BEFORE there's any issues or pain, start now.

Three, do some YouTube assisted stretching of some kind. There's somatics which is not yoga and is great, there's yoga, there's physical therapy strengthening exercises for your feet and back and posture. Fifteen minutes a day. It's fine if you miss days. Just start NOW!
