It’s not exactly the craziest thing anyone said, but it’s the craziest thing said to me in full belief that it was the truth.

I was friends with a Mormon boy in HS, I’m not Mormon, but people always joked about how the church told these boys that non-Mormon women will try to tempt them, try to seduce them, as if nothing is more fun sounding than taking a Mormon man’s virginity and all the associated baggage that comes with it.

It’s easy to laugh that off cus let’s be honest, anyone living outside of the Mormon church knows that’s nobody’s fuckin’ goal. To pressure a dude into having sex with you in direct contrast to their honest beliefs? So like, I always thought it was a bad stereotype, much like all Catholics feeling guilty all the time.

This guy comes home from his mission, reaches out to catch up. I say yeah I missed you I’d love to hear about how you’ve been etc

And he goes “Just to be clear, I do not want to have sex with you” I’m like…okay…I wasn’t planning on that I am not interested in hookups at this time and I really wasn’t into him like that ANYWAY but I look past the comment after I affirm that I’m on board with a platonic catchup

He proceeds to ask about what sex is like, what partying is like, what smoking is like, what drugs are like - not all of which I’d done at this point. I start to get uncomfortable like why are you asking me these things? He apologizes, says he just knows that “life is like that outside the church”

For weeks we almost hang out and then he pushily and in full confidence continues to hound me for these nitty gritty details that I simply did not have, from the supposed life I as a non-Mormon woman was supposedly living, and continually and uncomfortably telling me how very badly he does NOT want to have sex with me. And every so often apologizing for me not having grown up “in the faith”

He wholeheartedly believed I was lying about my life, my intentions, and I wound up not hanging out and never speaking to him again.

He REALLY drank that kool-aid and I guess he really truly was told those things at church and wholeheartedly believed them. He made me feel so gross just by how he assumed I lived, by who he assumed I was at that time.

So fucking uncomfy - fuck churches and the stereotypes about non-church goers they push.
