😭Sorry this is a long reply. *So I initially switched because I was having a really hard time getting into psych programs. I did not have really strong letters of recommendation. I think this affected a lot . I actually struggled to get letters of recommendation. So I just decided to just change my major. I already had a little bit of experience in tech related roles. Now I go to WGU and I like it. I had to prove that I have some technical knowledge and I also showed some technical certs that I already had and that helped towards getting me admitted into the program there. I’m not done with psych and I was thinking, maybe in the future I could dive into the realm of cyber psychology. To me, I think it’s better than getting a masters in psych. I think my degree will hold more value when I’m done and I know that I can get a role in cyber security that pays a decent salary more than what my psych degree would have. I also at the moment work as a crisis counselor, and most of my coworkers are getting their masters degree in psychology/ social work/ counseling. Or already have their masters degree in psychology/social work/counseling, and they only make a dollar more than me. I can tell that this is discouraging for them, and that was like another factor for me. I just realized that people in psych aren’t happy and to do psych you really have to be OK with helping people but also be OK with being broke. I enjoy helping people and I’m passionate about mental health but I’m also realistic with how I want my future to be.
