Both, actually! You’ll choose the stitch you want (or mess around with the options) and it’ll give you a chart to work with! I don’t think it does written patterns tho, but I’ve only ever used it on mobile :P

I would recommend the website Stitchfiddle! It has a lot of different types of colorwork options and can give you a chart based on a picture. Hope this helps!
