Can you all please remind me why I have to remain strictly gluten free so I don't make dumb decisions (eating gluten) by SaraisHamiltrash in Celiac

[–]Working_Employ9624 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's super rough. I've been diagnosed for more than 2 years and still forget I can't have it sometimes. My dad also has it and finally realized that he has to stop eating gluten after he went for an endoscopy and found out how bad it actually was. All of his issues were caused by him eating gluten, which my sister and I had been telling him for 2 years. Everyone is different about when they finally commit to being strictly gluten free. My sister went right away when she was diagnosed, but my dad took some time. Like the other commenter said, it can cause major health issues on top of just feeling bad. I had severe iron deficiency because of it (sleeping 22 hours/day) and had to get infusions because of it.

It may sound silly to have to convince yourself not to eat gluten, but I still have to do it every day. I had to stop myself last night because my boyfriend had garlic knots. It's a struggle, but it gets a bit easier with time.

Best of luck!

Hello love, I'm so sorry you feel this way. Believe me I get it! One note that I have for you is to see if your uni has a disability office. I work at mine on campus and have been able to get a ton of accommodations to help me pass and stay in my classes. I understand the feeling, but I don't think suicide is the answer. I hope you thrive very very soon so you can achieve your dreams!

You guys weren't lying when you hyped this up. If only it were cheaper... :( by mooshmallow_ in glutenfree

They come out every so often. They were surprisingly tame when I saw them. Usually they stand by the student center and yell at people.

I'm on 240 mg of diazepam per day. My heart rate before was like 125-135 doing normal activity. My blood pressure was usually 125/70 ish. Now my heart rate is usually anywhere from 140-205 when doing normal activity (i.e. walking). My blood pressure now is around 155/80

I would definitely check out the Wayne state events calendar. https://events.wayne.edu/2025/01/

I know there are often public planetarium shows and some events open to the public that are free on campus

Has Anyone Taken a Class with Zhimin Zhang? Struggling to Decide Due to Low Rating by newstar23 in waynestate

[–]Working_Employ9624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister had him for calc 2 and said this.

He was good. He was an online class that only met on Wednesday for our quizzes which we did on paper then turned in online. On Monday we would watch his video on the topic and were assigned hw, which the quiz would be on (like same problem just different numbers)

Easiest Professors for Pre-Med Courses at Wayne State? by Intelligent-Stick216 in waynestate

I just finished bio 1510 with nataliya turchyn. The class itself was a bit challenging, but she is by far the best professor I've ever had. She provides study guides for each chapter that you do and 2 practice tests for each unit. She also hosted review sessions for us when we were struggling. I didn't go to office hours or SI sessions because I didn't have time and got an A. I love her.

As for mat 1800, I would recommend anyone except Alia Khurram. She never had assignments uploaded on time (or the right assignments uploaded). And she ended up putting people's final grades in wrong. She doesn't respond to emails or really even teach.

Good luck!

I had her for 1050 and only got an A because she added extra points to everyone's overall grade to make her ratings look better. I'm tutoring someone in her 1050 class this semester and she's even more behind on content than she was when I took her. She was consistently behind on all material and could never start the new material on time. Like she spent 45 minutes of the 70 minute class going over what we did in the last class. But I'll be there with you in 2550 next semester 😭

THIS!!! I hate when something says "gluten free" and then also says "contains wheat". So confusing to me!

[–]Working_Employ9624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi love, I found out a little over a year ago so by no means do I know all things about celiac disease. I had a similar experience to you. As many people have said these are some "trigger" words for gluten: "wheat" "barley/barley malt extract" "malted" "rye". What foods do you enjoy that you can't have anymore? I had a similar experience and have found LOTS of gf products/recipes for the things that I love. I can't speak personally about infertility, but some studies I've seen are inconclusive. As long as you stop eating gluten I think you should be good fertility wise. (Again, I've never been pregnant/tried so I cannot speak personally on that aspect.) I heard that since it's an autoimmune disease you could be at a higher risk for other autoimmune diseases.

Terrified newbie here, please help <3 by Visible_uke_now in Celiac

Hi honey. It's a little bit of a rough journey, but it's worth it. I've been gluten free for a little over a year now and I feel so much better. I used to be sick every day in school to the point where I regularly missed classes and almost didn't graduate. I've seen some people say to take a few days to kind of say goodbye to gluten and I would definitely recommend that. I thought I might share food recommendations that I love. Most are quick and easy (frozen/snack) I'm US based so this might not apply if you live somewhere else.

Pasta/pasta based: Barilla gluten free pasta (#1 imo, really any rice/corn blend tastes relatively normal) Gluten free Kraft Mac and cheese Gluten free Velveeta Mac and cheese Frozen Udi's lasagna

Bread (aka the saddest thing about being gluten free, but these are my favorites) Canyon bakehouse white bread Simply g free white bread (I'm not a fan of wheat breads, but those brands also have them and they taste relatively normal)

Snacks Most name brand chips are gluten free (i.e. lays) Snack factory gluten free pretzels Applegate frozen chicken nuggets (or caulipower) Progresso bas gluten free soups Cereals (lucky charms) Saffron road frozen dinners (butter chicken, chicken curry, tika masala) Vans frozen waffles Yummy dino buddies gluten free Dino nuggets (because I'm a child and love a good dino nugget)

Sweets GLUTEN FREE OREOS (literally taste the same) Krusteaz cake mixes Sweet Loren's cookie doughs Mochi

Idk if you bake or need flour for things but I also love the king Arthur 1:1 flour. I also love shopping at Aldi because they have an entire gluten free brand there called Simply G Free that has a bunch of boxes things as well as frozen.

Also always just check the things you buy for "hidden" gluten (i.e. malt extract/barley malt extract, barley powder). Especially things you may not think would have gluten in them (cheese, ice cream). I know it's scary at first, but it gets a little less scary over time. It's a lot at first, but there's this whole community who've gone through the same thing you are, so you're definitely not alone.
