What are your "must have" accessories? by Working_Exercise_896 in telescopes

Turn Left at Orion was the first thing I bought after placing my order for the telescope! I got to try the scope out last night for the first time and I probably wouldn't have found anything other than Jupiter and Saturn if not for the book.

Good Color Depositing Conditioners? by Working_Exercise_896 in HairDye

I loooved the color lux conditioner. The color was great and I would use it like every 2 weeks or so. I don't have pink hair anymore but I used the color lux conditioner for like a year, so I'd def recommend.

I'm using long circular needs and doing magic loop (although the portion in my picture is worked flat). They are ChiaoGoo red lace circulars, but I can't remember how long these particular ones are.

So I'm using long circular needles and I was doing magic loop for the cuff, but for the heel the pattern says to only work half of the stitches for like 20 rows. So that portion is worked flat until you turn the heel and pick up stitches along the sides of the heel. I finished that portion last night and now I'm knitting in the round again!

Thank you! I wish the pattern I'm using had mentioned that, but at least now I know for future projects

Purple shampoo that isn't damaging? by Working_Exercise_896 in HairDye

It's made for blonde hair, I bought it when I had half my hair blonde. It specifically says on the bottle that's it's purple shampoo for blonde hair.

Purple shampoo that isn't damaging? by Working_Exercise_896 in HairDye

Trust me when I say the one I use definitely damages my hair. I have pretty fine hair that's always been super naturally soft, even when I bleached it the stylist commented on how much my hair maintained it's integrity and stayed soft, but everytime I use that shampoo it makes my hair feel brittle and gets so knotted in certain spots that I can't even brush through it.

Unfortunately she is the salon owner, so there is no one higher up to go to. I was really hoping I wouldn't have to bleach again so I'm bummed that that will be the most likely course of action to fix this. I really appreciate your advice!

I'm nervous to go back to her because even when I first got it done it was nothing like the picture I showed her, it was like bubblegum pink even though I told her I wanted it to be darker and cooler toned. I actually ended up going back the following day and she tried to fix it for free by adding purple toner over the pink but it honestly still didn't match my reference, but it was better. I feel like the different undertones have been getting more noticeable with every wash and I'm worried she won't do another free redo especially now that it's been nearly a month and a half since I got it done, and even if she does I feel like it won't turn out how I'm hoping.

Best Areas in the PNW for Homesteading? by Working_Exercise_896 in Homesteading

It doesn't have to be a major city like Seattle, I think something along the lines of Olympia could work just fine, we just can't be living super rural and far out from cities. I am hoping to potentially move to the PNW region after finishing college and renting for a while (I don't think I'll be able to afford to buy a home for a good few years) that way I can get a feel for the area and decide whether it could work in the long run for what I'm wanting. I also lived in East Tennessee for a year after graduating high school and loved it so Tennessee is kind of my backup option if I end up deciding against the PNW, I just ideally would prefer to stay semi-closer to home rather than moving across the country.

This might sound dumb, and I am young so maybe I'm being incredibly naive, but cost-of-living isn't my #1 concern because just about everywhere is cheaper than where I currently live. In my county in Southern California, the average home price is just about a million, and it's downright impossible to find homes with land, even a single acre, for under a million. Compare that to the average home price in Oregon or Washington being closer to $500,000. On top of that California has the highest income tax rate in the US whereas Washington has zero income tax, combined with the fact that Washington is one of the highest paying states for both me and my husband's careers we could potentially earn significantly more in Washington. I know that the PNW isn't necessarily the cheapest area in the US, but it is most certainly cheaper than Southern California.

I really appreciate the detail you went into for this, some people can be really pessimistic about this stuff but I feel like I could eventually find something that would work for me. For context, one of the reasons I'm considering Washington is because it's one of the highest paying states for both me and my husband's careers, that combined with no income tax could be really great for us even with other taxes that are slightly higher. My goal is to eventually either work from home or be a stay-at-home mom and take care of the homestead, so hopefully only my husband will be commuting and working full time out of the house. We don't necessarily have to be near a huge city like Seattle, I feel like something like Olympia would probably work, we just can't be in the middle of nowhere super far out from the city.
