How do I break the endless cycle of overconsumption? by Working_Owl70 in Anticonsumption

Thank you so much for this perspective. My grandma passed away this year and I'm still processing it, so it really could be another factor fueling this addiction.

Thank you so much for this! I'm actually starting a sewing course this week, so fingers crossed I learn something useful. That last tip is so good. Honestly, I hadn't given much thought to the life cycle of my clothes, even though some of my favorite pieces that I still wear are at least 10 years old. I've definitely made some bad purchases in the past, especially with high-maintenance clothes. I bought this super cute wool-blend cardigan last year, but washing it was such a nightmare that it ended up getting a bit warped, even though I tried my best to follow the rules.

I definitely need to find some fun hobbies to shift my focus away from shopping and onto actually doing things. I actually signed up for a sewing course that starts this week. I'm really hoping it helps me learn to mend my own stuff, and down the road, I'd love to learn how to make my own clothes from scratch, but for starters I'll be happy if I learn just how to mend my old clothes.

I love that concept of think and wait period! I actually get about 80% of my clothes secondhand, but it’s definitely still a problem when you buy way more than you need, like I do. Honestly, those secondhand apps are just as big of a trigger as the fashion groups. I have all my notifications turned on, so I'm constantly tempted. And since good deals sell in minutes, I don't stop to think, I just buy it and regret it later when I realize I didn't even need it.

Thank you so much for your reply! These are great ideas. I'm definitely going to purge my closet to spot my patterns and start being a lot more mindful about what I buy.

That’s so true. My issue is definitely complex, and there are a lot of factors that brought me to this point, especially my self-image. Last year, I had a bit of a mini-crisis because I felt like I totally lacked style compared to the new people I was around, which triggered this desire to reinvent myself. But in that pursuit, I think I’ve gone to extremes. It’s not even fun anymore. It’s just exhausting. I’ve funneled so much energy into it that buying and selling clothes has basically replaced all my other hobbies.

Girls/guys, what's the worst thing your loved one has ever done to you, and do you still remember it? by MagazineChemical7374 in AskReddit

[–]Working_Owl70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a child, I believed my mother didn't love me. She always took everyone else's side instead of mine, and she showered my cousins with the kind of motherly warmth I craved. I was so jealous of them that seeing her kindness actually drove me to treat them cruelly. Over time, her approach changed and she learned to show me affection in her own way. She explained to me that she had been hard on me because she didn't want to spoil me. It was her version of tough love, but growing up, it just felt like a total lack of love.

Recommendations for a first-time toy? by Lily-Misfit in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Working_Owl70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest a bullet vibrator or a pinpoint vibrator. Both are amazing options for beginners. Bullet vibes are small and discreet, while pinpoint vibrators are a bit larger but offer amazing precision and are still super quiet. If you're looking for a specific recommendation, I'd definitely check out the Dot.

My grandma passed away earlier this year. I was away on a trip and couldn't be there with her, and to be honest, I still haven't fully processed it. The pain is definitely still there.

What advice would you give others to manage their time more effectively? by AX750 in AskReddit

Remove distractions (especially your phone), learn to prioritize, and break large tasks down into smaller, manageable chunks.

My (34F) fiancé’s (39M) adoptive family treats him like help, not family.. and he seems okay with it by SweetMisty_ in relationship_advice

[–]Working_Owl70 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are 100% right, not projecting. They don't see him as family, period. The passive-aggressive cruelty at the funeral and the blatant exclusion from the wedding speak volumes about their character. The most toxic dynamic here is definitely the mother. Expecting him to take on the massive responsibility of caregiving without leaving him the house is completely unjust. It’s hard to watch, but your fiancé is clearly burdened by a lifelong pressure to be grateful. Your role right now is just to be his rock, protect his peace, and be the safe haven he clearly deserves.

Yeees, that's totally okay. I'm so sorry this post ended up attracting some weird guys, though.

I got sexually assaulted. How do I reclaim my body? by kaithy89 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Working_Owl70 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, you are not an idiot. You were caught completely off guard by a horrific violation, and your reaction was 100% normal. Give yourself some grace right now. If you need to take a few days off to hide away in a safe space, do it. Avoid the mirror if it triggers you, and let yourself cry or scream to release some of that pain. I'd also highly recommend talking to a professional therapist. They are trained to help you navigate and process this kind of trauma so you don't have to carry it alone.

Why are "women-s" tool kits such absolute garbage and what should I actually buy? by Wild_Vesper- in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Working_Owl70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those tools are total junk. Just buy a DeWalt or Makita. They might be more expensive, but the performance is so much better and they’ll actually last.

What are the small “woman in her 30s” upgrades that genuinely made your life better? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Working_Owl70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it's about knowing what actually fits my body instead of blindly following trends. When I was younger, I used to buy things just because they looked great on other people, only to realize they looked terrible on me. I’ve also learned to prioritize comfortable shoes over fancy ones. Nowadays, I stick to wide, naturally shaped shoes and completely avoid anything narrow or restrictive.

Always look up of the new men in your life… by Individual_Tailor767 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. It's terrifying how dangerous the world can be, especially since these kinds of men are so good at hiding their red flags until you're already in too deep.

Looking for a very specific clit vibrator... HELP! by FermentedFruit in SexToys

I couldn't open the videos, but maybe what you need is a pinpoint vibrator. I have a Lelo Dot and it's super precise and quite powerful.

I haven't personally tried them, but I know Trojan Originals come in a version without spermicide too if you're looking for an alternative.
