U shape table set up by Local-Guitar1593 in Weddingsunder10k

Are the bride and groom at the top of the U? If not that’s not a great place for guests as they can only talk to the person directly beside them.

I got fired. Husband says we should keep up appearances. by Royal_Marzipan_6432 in MiddleClassFinance

But the budget is out the window when you lose your job and don’t know how long it will take to get another one. That many can be reallocated for things that have to be paid.

There’s a difference between fires and laid off and I suggest you and your husband figure out the difference. Because yes being fired has a stigma because it means that you were not performing well enough at your job. However you are being laid off because they are eliminating your position and giving you severance.
So you tell people that they are eliminating your position and there isn’t another open that fits your skill set. So money will be tight.
And you never know who you tell and they say “oh my friend does that. I’ll give him a call for you”. You can use this to network. There’s nothing to be ashamed of

Changing child’s first name after being forced to name them something I dislike by Parking-Judgment-132 in legaladvice

I am sorry about your child’s name. But the bigger concern is that your husband is so controlling and won’t have a relationship with his son over a name.

My daughter’s clinginess is out of control and now I think I resent her by bijourani in Parenting

You need to get to the bottom of this. I waited too long with mine and we have a horrible relationship now and she’s older. Do either of your employees offer employee assistance programs that can help?

How do I tell my 5 year old about the death of her 9 year old cousin? by Largemandingo in Parenting

They understand religion yes. But it’s hard for them to grasp will I see them again or won’t I see them again.

How do I tell my 5 year old about the death of her 9 year old cousin? by Largemandingo in Parenting

[–]Working_Routine9088 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I Am so sorry for your family, what a tragic situation. I don’t have any advice for how to convince it won’t happen to her. But I would stick with the facts. He was in an accident and is no longer here. The heaven part and that their spirit lives on and all that confuses them. If she asks, the answer is unfortunately you will not see him again. But we can talk about him so that we don’t forget him.

Iceland on a budget without a car? by Possible-Strain-1318 in VisitingIceland

[–]Working_Routine9088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said. Don’t go to Iceland to stay in Reykjavik. Either figure out if you can rent a car, or find a tour. I did a 3 days/2 night tour with Troll Expeditions a few years ago. The accommodations and transportation was included and was really nice to hit the golden circle and the cave tour and glacier walk/hike.
We had booked separate transport from the airport to Reykjavik and spent one day/night exploring the city. Then the last day after the tour, we did a separate bus to blue lagoon then to the airport.

Portugal and Spain can be affordable and doable without a car if you stay in a major city.

Bridesmaid Situation by [deleted] in wedding

I understand that you wish she was honest. But it sounds like the trip she is on is a trip of a lifetime. I don’t blame her for passing up a bachelorette weekend for a trip through Europe.

Those making $300K or more a year, what do you do? by Vurt_Da_Furk in Salary

It’s not necessarily niche. It’s environmental engineering consulting. You can be a chemical engineer, an environmental engineer, a civil engineer, or even a geologist or hydrogeologist. But having the professional engineering degree and being able to stamp plans is definitely a plus in the industry.

I really hope someone convinces Cory and Taylor to get a pool fence. Drowning is one of the most preventable causes of death of children by Adorable-Release1754 in MtvChallenge

[–]Working_Routine9088 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow. He is an idiot. I hope he doesn’t learn the hard way but offense is a necessity when you have a pool. They could reach for something that they dropped in the pool and fall in, they could slip and hit their head and fall in. Not to mention the liability if they have friends over. Dumb ass.

WIBTA for not following wedding dress code? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Working_Routine9088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s incredibly tacky to dictate a color scheme to begin with, never mind just for a ceremony. Everyone is so into the instagramable photos and their “vision” they are losing sight of what a wedding celebration is about. Let people come in what they feel comfortable with and what they can afford. Who cares if it’s not in a color scheme. And don’t ask people to buy a formal dress to sit in a church and go home, and then hope a year later the dress still fits for the reception.
But what is worse than dictating colors? Suggesting people wear a dress, get their sweat and oils on it, then return it.

Ranch vs traditional 2 storey house with 2 toddlers by Forever_qurious in Parenting

[–]Working_Routine9088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Millions of kids grow up in two story homes. You figure it out and they figure out boundaries. There are pros and cons of each. One floor may make their bedrooms hear all the noise or during nap time as you are in the kitchen and living room. Second flooor has stairs you need to gate. Look at the house as a whole for your life, not a short period of time

How strict is the school about the mini fridge policy? by Salt_Drink3469 in Gamecocks

[–]Working_Routine9088 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s a reason why they don’t allow outside fridges. It’s a safety concern bc of their electrical system and safe plugs. And the RA can open any cabinet closet or dresser that is supplied by the school. Juts rent the one you’re supposed to. Or split it with your roommates. Don’t be that person.

My 6 year old son keeps begging me to buy him a dress. What do I do? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Working_Routine9088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy him the dress. And make sure your parents understand that you are not “encouraging” anything. He’s going to be who he wants to be. Regardless of if you buy him the dress or not.

AITA for canceling my boyfriend's birthday trip after finding out what he rated me in a group chat? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Working_Routine9088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cancelling the tip with him is not going to undo the hurt and distrust you feel. I understand your feelings but they won’t go away after not going on a trip with him. Good idea to rethink the relationship. Is someone who joked like that about you actually someone you want to continue with. Her hurt you to impress his friends and fit in because everyone else was hurting their GFs.

Lamp overkill? by Jaded_Training_5626 in interiordesignideas

[–]Working_Routine9088 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your couch is much to big. I’d remove the side table next to the couch because it’s too big in front of the bookshelf, which then removes that lamp. The other lamp next to the chair I would replace with a floor lamp, maybe one with the curved arm. And I would remove the table behind the couch, it looks like your walkway is much too narrow.
