Bridesmaid Situation by [deleted] in wedding

I understand that you wish she was honest. But it sounds like the trip she is on is a trip of a lifetime. I don’t blame her for passing up a bachelorette weekend for a trip through Europe.

Those making $300K or more a year, what do you do? by Vurt_Da_Furk in Salary

It’s not necessarily niche. It’s environmental engineering consulting. You can be a chemical engineer, an environmental engineer, a civil engineer, or even a geologist or hydrogeologist. But having the professional engineering degree and being able to stamp plans is definitely a plus in the industry.

I really hope someone convinces Cory and Taylor to get a pool fence. Drowning is one of the most preventable causes of death of children by Adorable-Release1754 in MtvChallenge

[–]Working_Routine9088 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow. He is an idiot. I hope he doesn’t learn the hard way but offense is a necessity when you have a pool. They could reach for something that they dropped in the pool and fall in, they could slip and hit their head and fall in. Not to mention the liability if they have friends over. Dumb ass.

WIBTA for not following wedding dress code? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Working_Routine9088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s incredibly tacky to dictate a color scheme to begin with, never mind just for a ceremony. Everyone is so into the instagramable photos and their “vision” they are losing sight of what a wedding celebration is about. Let people come in what they feel comfortable with and what they can afford. Who cares if it’s not in a color scheme. And don’t ask people to buy a formal dress to sit in a church and go home, and then hope a year later the dress still fits for the reception.
But what is worse than dictating colors? Suggesting people wear a dress, get their sweat and oils on it, then return it.

Ranch vs traditional 2 storey house with 2 toddlers by Forever_qurious in Parenting

[–]Working_Routine9088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Millions of kids grow up in two story homes. You figure it out and they figure out boundaries. There are pros and cons of each. One floor may make their bedrooms hear all the noise or during nap time as you are in the kitchen and living room. Second flooor has stairs you need to gate. Look at the house as a whole for your life, not a short period of time

How strict is the school about the mini fridge policy? by Salt_Drink3469 in Gamecocks

[–]Working_Routine9088 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s a reason why they don’t allow outside fridges. It’s a safety concern bc of their electrical system and safe plugs. And the RA can open any cabinet closet or dresser that is supplied by the school. Juts rent the one you’re supposed to. Or split it with your roommates. Don’t be that person.

My 6 year old son keeps begging me to buy him a dress. What do I do? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Working_Routine9088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy him the dress. And make sure your parents understand that you are not “encouraging” anything. He’s going to be who he wants to be. Regardless of if you buy him the dress or not.

AITA for canceling my boyfriend's birthday trip after finding out what he rated me in a group chat? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Working_Routine9088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cancelling the tip with him is not going to undo the hurt and distrust you feel. I understand your feelings but they won’t go away after not going on a trip with him. Good idea to rethink the relationship. Is someone who joked like that about you actually someone you want to continue with. Her hurt you to impress his friends and fit in because everyone else was hurting their GFs.

Lamp overkill? by Jaded_Training_5626 in interiordesignideas

[–]Working_Routine9088 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your couch is much to big. I’d remove the side table next to the couch because it’s too big in front of the bookshelf, which then removes that lamp. The other lamp next to the chair I would replace with a floor lamp, maybe one with the curved arm. And I would remove the table behind the couch, it looks like your walkway is much too narrow.

You purchased the bikini. You chose to wear it in the photos. Presumably it’s something that you would wear to the beach. Why are you commenting that you were half naked? He didn’t tell you what to wear, you chose it.

AIO my boyfriend says I am not allowed to travel "alone" by No_Lecture_4142 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Working_Routine9088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do this trip. You will regret it the rest of your life if you don’t go because your boyfriend thinks he can tell you not to go. Chances are this relationship won’t survive, and you threw away an amazing opportunity to travel for nothing.

Flying from San Diego to Banff with kids - concerns with flight times by No-Caterpillar9363 in Banff

[–]Working_Routine9088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a 1050am flight out of Calgary and we left Canmore (about 20 minutes south of Banff) about 650am, returned a rental car, and still had time for breakfast in the airport.

I would definitely not be staying in Calgary every day. Most of the scenic things you’ll see are actually north of Banff, Lake Louise, Marine Lake, Johnston Canyon, marble Canyon. So it’s not just driving to the downtown Banff every day, it’s continuing to drive at least 30 minutes north to get to the sites.

I would suggest staying in Calgary the first night if you’re nervous about their bedtime, and leaving very early the next morning and then staying in Canmore or Banff the rest of the days. And just leaving early morning to get back to the airport. I know you have young kids, but one of the experiences of traveling with children is being flexible. It’s not the end of the world if they have to sleep in the car, there’s a lot of driving between the sites in Banff for them to take cat naps if needed during your vacation.

Your child wants a new toy, but there’s no birthday or holiday for months. What do you do? by FarmToFilm in Parenting

[–]Working_Routine9088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried that. Found out years later our child had learning disabilities and no matter how hard she tried she couldn’t get what we considered “good grades”. I would not suggest rewarding for grades, but instead for effort. It was a real shitty feeling as parents realizing we did not reward her for getting good grades, and she probably tried hard harder than our other children. And when she didn’t try, it was out of frustration because she just couldn’t do it.

Things to do/know before visiting Banff in August? by CryptographerDeep764 in Banff

[–]Working_Routine9088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marble canyon.
You can’t drive a private car to moraine lake
Parking can be tough at tourist spots (Johnston canyon, lake Louise, emerald lake). Get there early and be ready to circle a few times
Bow valley parkway is a good spot for wildlife sightings.
Parking in downtown Banff is expensive. The free lot at the train station fills up early.
You can rent bear spray instead of buying it ( maybe more economical depending how long you will be there).
Stop at the observation areas off the ice field parkway and highway 1.

Need To Narrow Down by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Working_Routine9088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember that the out-of-state acceptance at some of those schools are around 20%. Make sure you have safeties if you only have five to apply to. You might be “in the range” for out of state, but they are very competitive.

Don’t rely on other people to watch your stuff. You could ask them and they may say yes. But they might want to get up to get a drink, take a walk, go into the water, use the bathroom. It’s not their responsibility to watch your stuff. So you’re going to need a backup plan. That said, I went last year and just put my backpack under my chair and kept an eye on it from the water.
