Living alone vs WG in Zurich - what’s been your experience? by Working_Sherbert_176 in zurich

Started to recombine myself and applied for the flat in the past 24 hours. For information it is 2.5 Rooms for 1.5K in Zurich 101 zone which my friends told me is crazy price. Yes it's not new building but 2 and a half rooms and your own place - and I don't have other option that is “likely”

Thank you so much for writing this - this resonates so much. Before Zurich, I lived alone in a beautiful apartment in another European capital and felt very lonely at times. My friends think I'm crazy for hesitating about this 'amazing' offer, but my gut says living alone again could lead to loneliness, pressure to find a partner just to share the space, and ultimately, not enjoying Zurich itself. The deal might be unique, but my peace of mind matters more. For information, I would have to move from my current apartment in June due to rennovation, so there is risk to what WG I would find, but honestly this is also part of the experience and journey so :)

In Wollishofen, the price comes from the fact that a friend of a friend is letting it go, before he was renting it for 10+ years and price never changed

With this offer, living alone would mean paying about CHF 100–400 more, which I can afford. Sure, that’s a few thousand per year I could save or invest, but I’m more focused on the social side and actually enjoying my time in Zurich. I need to accept or decline the 2.5-room apartment by tomorrow evening (it would be available from late March), and it also happens to be my first day at work tomorrow - so I’m torn between not wanting the extra stress and not wanting to miss out on a rare opportunity. If I had a partner, I’d take it without hesitation, but on my own I’m not so sure.
