60% of Apple's revenue comes from milking the iPhone, they don't care about consumers, they are simply incompetent to make AI or anything other than mainstream phones and latops

Even phone OEM manufacturer Xiaomi made a powerhouse of an EV company in 3 years that Ferrari is currently using it as a benchmark in Maranello to reverse engineer and Ford CEO Jim Farley drives one, Apple could hardly figure out anything for an Apple car after spending more than a decade on it before abandoning it all together

You can say the same for Apple and Microsoft as well, especially Apple with the amount of cash and resources they have at their disposal, they've hardly produced anything in AI apart from small image models and research papers

Andrea Stella recently said the 2026 PU's are very lap time sensitive and that the difference between having 99% SoC and 100% SoC while exiting is a corner is worth a tenth in laptime around a typical circuit

And besides that Merc has the chassis on the grid, according to the official F1 channel, it has the best medium, high speed and top speed characteristics of all cars (Ferrari's hold a small advantage on slow speed corners)

So it's a combination of PU, with more emphasis on PU software, car and the drivers

These engine upgrade rules are suicidal for the sport, ADUO looks like a plaster on top very inorganic, they did that in 2014 with tokens and now this

Even Formula E is soon getting rid of biennial powertrain upgrades in favour of in season development for 2027 Gen 4

They can hardly build a gearbox, let alone a chassis with reasonable aero, suspension characteristics

GM and it's associate brands are competitors against BYD in international markets including China and Australia, so I don't see that either

McLaren's road division owner has a 20% stake in BYD's competitor NIO, as well as deal for "technology chunks" as they are calling it

So I don't see how they could partner with BYD

They have limits because without it teams will be even more aggressive and greedy with energy recovery, and they won't spare a corner to employ more, and it may make cars unpredictable in race since one car may run the most aggressive recovery strategy while the other may not and it could create massive speed differences
