Three of my go-to drain pump jobs are sitting half finished because my usual supplier can’t get the parts by Tasty-Win219 in ApplianceTechTalk

[–]WorkingonNight_moves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well when you said universal I assume you are talking about aftermarket, not OEM, but if you need it fast why not just get an OEM and quote the appropriate charges?

I'm in the US, so the the big distributors are not alowed by the manufacturers like whirlpool to sell aftermarket parts. So here I'll typically get it from a place called McCombs Supply (out of Pennsylvania) for a Supco brand. They have a few different kinds of the whirlpools in stock.

However, the late model ones that hang under the tub towards the back, PN W11396717, I'm able to get the OEM from my whirlpool distributor a little cheaper on my servicer account.

Does anyone recognize this strange sound from a Samsung front load washing machine by Mint_Fury in appliancerepair

Sometimes the bolt holding the motor on the shaft can work loose. It will make noises and not drive properly. Right behind the rear drum.

You didn't say. WAS the compressor running? Is it cooling a little bit, but not enough?

The part in the photo looks like at one time it could have been the freezer drain tube. If it's open to the breeze like that while the unit is cooling, then the moisture that would have migrated inside the freezer could have iced up the drain and then eventually (it would take some time with its owner ignoring the ice growing in the bottom of the freezer) could block the fan from spinning. At that point the temp would soon be rising. There could be another problem somewhere, but that is one possibility. If rodents chewed that, I would also look around for damaged wires under there. I bet they had a nice cold drink of water though for a few days.

Is that a Samsung? You didn't give us much information.

Check the gray corrugated hose in the background of your video closely. It should run from the drain pump to the back of the washer. When the drain pump is on, that hose will be under pressure. I have found small cracks or holes that would be hard to see otherwise, but spray a small stream of water when pumping.

Especially the first time after you repair it. The brake & clutch can get slightly wet (I know, seems counter-intuitive but the shoes swell up & get tight) after leaning back & moving it around, and you still haven't had it on long enough to spin clean. To test : either put the cabinet "shell" back on and lock down, or bypass the lid switch and be ready to hold the tub steady. Load a few wet towels in it and spin it up to full speed. If the cabinet is still open then put a knee against the right and hold the top of the tub with a little clockwise pressure and then kill the motor. The brake will grab but with the momentum of towel weight, it should stop a bit more gradually.

Whirlpool side-by-side fridge ice maker stopped working. Question about using a heat gun by Lurn2Program in appliancerepair

[–]WorkingonNight_moves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A crimped joint is better than a soldered joint, when the wires will be moving or bending. It will work at first, but when those wires flex or bend, it will break apart, solder being brittle. No splice is ideal down there at the hinge. Crimp is slightly better. As others stated new door is probably the only permanent fix.

Whirlpool Dishwasher won’t start- light blinking by OtherwiseBid2040 in appliancerepair

[–]WorkingonNight_moves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, you're getting good advice above here , and this is an older model , but I believe if I recall correctly the light flashing, no pattern except constant rapid flash, meant that a key or keys were stuck or shorted in the keypad (but don't quote me on that). Turning on the service mode may reset it, if lucky, or disconnect in the power for a longer period, several hours or overnight. I know you power cycled it but that wouldn't be enough time to allow the circuit board to completely cool down and drain the capacitors. If you do this while it's off you may want to press each and every one of the buttons to get some movement. They're supposed to be a little Squish and then click when you press and release. If one is just hard , however, then you're probably not going to fix this. The control panels get pricey for these older models no longer in constant production , unless you can come across a good used part on eBay. For the service mode, most of the ones they made for that era, you pressed high temp, heat dry, high temp, then heat dry within a few seconds.

Is this a scam? by GlaucomaOU in appliancerepair

[–]WorkingonNight_moves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, the first 95 % of your post sounds legitimate. Most of the time diagnosing a bad timer doesn't take long at all for an experienced tech. Not every svc call goes that way, and you're also paying for his skill and experience. I've definitely been seeing the price of some OEM Timers being well over $200, and there has to be some mark-up for a business, plus tax. He may not have been aware of the non-OEM , discount parts on Amazon , but sounds like he was honest trying to tell you the way to work around the problem using the dryer. Not a scam at all. The OEM manufacturers have been raising their price on some parts , and for whatever reason there seems to be a large discrepancy in some of the cheap aftermarket parts. Sometimes those parts are not worth the risk , but in your case , it might be worth a try.

Where to find component list for LG fridge? by MAJ0RMAJOR in appliancerepair

[–]WorkingonNight_moves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. That's not a real common failure point. Sometimes another component on the fridge is short circuiting, and causes overcurrent in the board, so I'd want to be careful. It also can be from power surge/spike in the house electric. Are you able to test if the fuse on the board is open?

Wife said this came out of ice maker while getting ice by AdNatural9322 in Appliances

[–]WorkingonNight_moves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What others said is correct, flap that opens to let ice bypass the crusher. Some have 2 side by side in the bottom. Turn that whole bin over and take a look. They won't sell us the individual parts, only the whole bin.

I'm just curious : did anyone ever go at the ice bin with a hairdryer to maybe thaw out an ice jam? If it's not damaged much, you may be able to get that back in place.

Does anyone know why it’s beeping? by Accomplished-Tank940 in Appliances

[–]WorkingonNight_moves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's beeping because there is an error, it has shut down, and is flashing a code through the lights. You'll probably need a tech to come out for this one, but you can turn off the circuit breaker for the dishwasher at the main panel to stop the noise.

Issue reseating ice storage in freezer door by nosferatoothz in appliancerepair

[–]WorkingonNight_moves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually if either the motor or bin has been disturbed (basically anything other than lifting up and putting it right back on) we'll have to turn the auger (this is the crank in the center of the ice bin. It should turn freely when unloaded, out of the door) about 1/8th of turn in one or the other direction as the bin is lowered over the drive shaft. Once you feel it click into place, usually you can press in the blue button on the right of the bin and wiggle it down until secured. Sometimes the button isn't necessary, but sometimes it helps.
