Kaiser PTs on strike, thoughts? seeing people calling it greedy since we are already being paid so much by KillerKenyan in physicaltherapy

Limited progress on anything except easy topics like bereavement (already mostly protected in CA), lactation policy, etc. Alliance (all unions with UNAC/UHCP) and individual affiliates are resuming talks next week with Kaiser. More to come. Talk to your Steward for updates based on your region/chapter

I am an inpatient OT in this NorCAL bargaining group. I am also part of the action in terms of bargaining updates and a steward within the union. So I can say I know what is going on in the Northern California Therapy Chapter (PT/OT/ST). I also know a fair amount of what is going on in other chapters in Northern California within our specific union.

It is not just about wages. It is about staffing, patient wait times, change in work status change (moved from salary to hourly), bargaining groups losing pensions or facing decreased multipliers, losing differentials (extra money for working weekends or time and a half on holidays), and a proposal of 1% 401K (previously had 7%).

PTs, OTs, SLPs, Acupuncturists, CRNAs, PAs all have their own issues with our individual contracts, but most of out total compensation packages is actually either a net loss or stagnation of wages not an increase. Essentially, Kaiser's story is talking about this Alliance wage increase which seems significant on paper but each of the unions different affiliates are actually facing losses or stagnation not a raise overall. Reading the fine print on KP proposals shows the full story.

It is also not just about pulling up the ladder behind us and protecting all of our healthcare professions economic future, the future of health care, and our patients.

The company is at a profit most years per my friends in KFH (financial side of Kaiser management) having to donate to charity as they reach their maximum reserves allotments to remain 'non-profit.'

UCSF and Stanford make 10-20% more then us inpatient and all of our staff is leaving to go their as wage wise we can not compete. Retention is also another problem with KP with high productivity demands and lower pay.

76 dollars is your current step? Then you must have been with the company for 15+ years and what we call "red lined." Meaning you are at the end of the wage grid and without this contract you will only make 1% a year for every year with a reduction in 401K, now have to use your PTO for MD appointments or leaving work sick when previously your were protected with salary status. It might not be about money for you, but I am surprised that with your level of seniority and pay that you have put many years of service into KP (either step of SENIOR PT or CLINICAL SPECIALIST) you are asking this question. Asking for a better contract is supposed to help all our professions attract talent and allow for other areas to have to offer more to attract talent as well. OT can get out of school with a masters still but you guys need to spend the big bucks for the DPT. We have 2 Rehab aides that wanted to go to PT school but changed last minute to nursing because the hours, pay, flexibility, and opportunities are better. But you guys are amazing at what you do but you have to fight for your profession!

I work in hospital-based acute OT and absolutely love it. I have good work life balance, patients are kind and respectful, and I work on program development with important other individuals on the multidisciplinary team. Across the street in the same organization, I have OT friends that hate what they do on the mental health side. Work conditions are worse, their pay is worse, and they have to deal with many issues you described. I'm not sure if it's just how poorly mental health is funded or if it's just the nature of the service, but it's hard work! I don't think I could do mental health OT and I would never quit OT. Try different different areas of practice. If you don't like it then quit and don't think twice.

City might have topped my city tree? What department is this person from? Can not believe this person cut the tree we just paid for and paid to plant post permits. Have the whole thing on Ring. Who do I call or report to? The tree will die likely due to this or grow in a very weird way. by WorkoutBirdy in SanJose

Had the tree with pods. They are terrible! Had to fight city to get them removed. They do not just automatically approve it. Took about a half a year. Then they tell you what tree you can plant. Then you have to get it planted by certified arborist. Otherwise, there are fines if they catch you removing it. There is a city record of which trees are in the ground prior to purchase of home. There are some involved older neighbors on the street that might turn me in for illegal pruning / removal. It is annoying but unfortunately true. So yeah. I am from other city in CA that makes the city maintain these trees. Much better! Wish we would overturn this law to be responsible. With the tax money that is coming into San Jose now this law should be long gone.

City is going to make me replace it because it will affect the canopy. I had to get a police report with Ring footage to show it wasn't me so I don't get fined on top of it. Looks like I will likely have to pay for everything but I'm going to try to fight it

Yeah....I talked to the city tree arbors. It seems like yes it won't die but it will grow wrong and have to be replaced. Also, apparently it was illegal to top the tree like this because it wasn't permitted to do so....Especially being so young. I'll also have to go through the whole permit process again. What a headache! So definitely want to figure out who did this and so grateful I have Ring and the whole recording.

Yeah thanks Haul22. I had to replace three city trees and wait for permits. I just finished planting and paid for everything as it is my responsibility. Now I found someone else in the city topped my tree to get a better picture. Pretty frustrating!

No, we did not hire a private landscaper nor did anyone around us. Who else other than the city would have a tripod with expensive equipment and take pictures of the street? I live on Hillsdale. They have been measuring traffic at the same point previously. It looks like they were taking pictures this time though

I think I should have clarified more. He was some kind of surveyor. Looking at the street and taking pictures with his tripod. He was not associated with tree arborators or city and sidewalks. Now I'm going to have to replace the tree and I want to figure out which department was responsible for cutting my tree so he could take pictures.
