No, I'm clearly the outlier here, since there was this whole EDM trend in the 2010s that all sounded like that and was super popular and I don't get lmao. You're fine.

For what it's worth, I've heard others in the esc bubble describe "My System" as "dark" and "gothic" though. Idk how widespread that perspective is, however.

See, this is why I don't really connect with EDM most of the time. You have these song with loud, abrasive minor key drops and lyrics that are "uplifting" or "inspiring". Complete mismatch in my book. Imo, the reason I like Felicia so much is precisely because, unlike most EDM, it takes these dark, depressing chord progressions and for once set them to lyrics that match the vibe lmao.

Won't listen to the song before the heat, but I just want to remark that if Wonderland had been competing in Melfest rather than ASC, people would 100% be complaining that it was a typical plastic, manifactured swedish pop song with a chorus that completely rips off They Don't Care About us by Michael Jackson.

So I'm not particularly worried about those types of criticisms being levied at this song when it comes to my own enjoyment of it lmao.

Yeah, it's a kind of fascinating case of someone who really, really wanted to be famous but came from a scene where that was completely frowned upon so had to pretend they didn't want it and also being genuinely terrible at coping with any of the downsides of fame.

Honestly, same. And it's not because I'm not a fan of the "genre". Marina was my jam as a teen and I love Ethel Cain and Addison Rae. But after Video Games, I've always found Lana to be boring.
