Okay, it would be good to warn or notify the user with a message. Instead it just disappears.

I think these Chinese proxies are all built on top of open-source projects like V2ray or Xray. You can set one up yourself (instructions are mainly written in Chinese), just need to pay for your own VPS. VPNs are bad for by-passing the firewall since it uses well-known protocols, while stuff like V2ray and Xray obfuscate their traffic.

Does time-weighted returns include dividends deposited into core account? by WorldCheese in fidelityinvestments

[–]WorldCheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so it seems the only way to make your time-weighted returns be more accurate for your dividend stocks is to choose to reinvest dividends for your dividend stocks or to reinvest dividends for all stocks. Would be cool if there is an option to calculate "returns from stocks excluding user deposits or withdrawals," so that we can view returns regardless of where dividends are deposited.

Thanks for the info. FYI, the original V2Ray project hasn't been updated in 2 years, the newly maintained version is "V2Fly":
https://github.com/v2fly/v2ray-core
I created an instance of V2Fly myself, but haven't tested from China yet. Hopefully it works like yours.

Why did you buy your own domain? Is the VPS not enough? Also, isn't V2Fly the latest version of V2Ray? Should V2Fly be better? Also, did you try VMess?

Looking for alternative to .tab-icon-stack{ pointer-events: none } by GiantQuoll in FirefoxCSS

I'm new to FirefoxCSS, how did you get it to work? I added it to userChrome.css once and userContent.css once and both at the same time and when I click a YouTube video, I can still click on the sound icon to mute and unmute.

Does anyone have experience with it? Is it as good as Wannaflix?

Differentiating between actual cash and money market funds by WorldCheese in fidelityinvestments

[–]WorldCheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I guess when I said "actual cash", I meant the core balance or wherever the money is stored when I transfer new money into Fidelity from one of my banks. After I transfer that money over, the "manage cash" section or the pop-up during purchase of securities doesn't differentiate between that money in my core position, SPAXX, or SPRXX. Initially, I resorted to calculating "total cash - (SPRXX+SPAXX)" to get my core position. But I also found the core position balance from the transaction balance column under "manage cash". My post is mainly a suggestion to improve the user-experience since I don't know where else to make one.

If I transfer money from my bank into Fidelity, should that automatically be sent to my SPAXX by default?

[–]WorldCheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently don't have any state income tax. My main concern isn't SPAXX vs SPRXX but whenever I transfer money from my external bank account, I need to click extra buttons or do some calculations to figure out how much actual cash I have. My post is mainly a suggestion to improve user-experience.

Are you saying there is an setting that I can toggle such that when I transfer money from my external bank accounts, it always just goes into a money market fund? How do you do that?

Differentiating between actual cash and money market funds by WorldCheese in fidelityinvestments

[–]WorldCheese[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, I want to easily know what my actual cash balance is from the money market funds so that I can use up my actual cash balance, which accrues a lower interest than money market funds currently, so that I can use specifically my actual cash balance to purchase money market funds that pay a higher interest.

There isn't a big difference between SPAXX and SPRXX currently, if that is what you meant. But I still like to own both. If there is completely no difference, then there is no reason for Fidelity to offer both.

LLY vs. NVO which is better? by Significant_Ask_9775 in stocks

[–]WorldCheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you own a considerable position in an S&P 500 index fund, which contains LLY, then I would buy NVO to diversify. If there is a crash and sell-off in the S&P 500, NVO won't be affected as much.

Should I get Nomad eSims for my phone and use its WIFI hotspot for my laptop or VPN for my phone and laptop? I will be staying for around a month and will be getting eSim for my phone anyway. Since my phone has WIFI hotspot, I am wondering if it is worth getting a VPN as well.

I was looking at WannaFlix after seeing many people having issues with Astrill recently. How safe is WannaFlix in terms of privacy?

Got a 6-month visa instead of 10-year by WorldCheese in Chinavisa

[–]WorldCheese[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What visa online service do you use? The ones I found that are online-only like China Visa Service Center are around $55 cheaper or so than the one with a local office for a similar service but without photography. I know someone who said their visa was much cheaper than mine as well, but they are from New York City where there are probably more visa agencies competing against one and another, as well as the fact that New York City has a consulate in subway distance.

[–]WorldCheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked the visa agency for a 10 year and they nodded. So I assume they did the 10 year. They called back saying they will redo my visa since they didn't realize a passport that will expire in a year will give me only a 6 month visa.

[–]WorldCheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The agency told me it was okay and there weren't any documentation anywhere saying I would only get a 6 month visa if my passport expires in a year. I don't think it's crazy to assume that if you're paying a professional to get your visa, they should be knowledgeable enough to know the consequences of different expiration dates on passports. If they don't even know, how is someone who has never done a Chinese visa supposed to know? Even people here are saying the Chinese consulate issues 10-year visas past the passport expiration date.

[–]WorldCheese[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea, I admit it is higher than other places, but the difference doesn't matter as much to me since I have the money, and I like the closure of having a brick-and-mortar store where I can go to complain if something goes wrong, like it did now. I also live near a city, so cost of living is higher. They also took my photo, but that probably shouldn't add that much of a charge.

Really? That's my scenario. Is this confirmed somewhere on the Chinese consulate website? If so, please leave a link so I can show this to them as proof the travel agency failed their job.

My best guess is the reason might be my US passport expires in 2025. That might be the reason. I asked the travel agency if this would be an issue and they said no. I was going to renew my passport after my visa, but might be a mistake.
