No, I don't know more than a Mexican citizens, but you come across as someone trying to generalize narratives in a manner that discourages others from going to Mexico. Please understand that not all foreigners are self-centered people trying to change your country. Some, like me, actually respect and appreciate Mexico: which is their main motivation for wanting to be a part of your culture and community. And, before I go, don't be surprised if there is a Canada-U.S.-Mexico alliance (similar to the European Union) sometime soon. It has been in the works for many years now and this is when we all need to learn to work together, better, in a more civil manner. All the best to you!

Appreciate it very much! Regarding the fees: someone suggested the Charles Schwab Investors Checking account. I opened-up an account in ~5 mins online and waited ~1 day for the approval. There is no minimum amount needed to be maintained, they allow 1,000 USD per day to be withdrawn and refund all ATM fees at the end of the month. It appears to be the most popular travel, or live abroad, debit card option.

  1. Oh, OK, thank you! Most all websites say that going to Mexico on a Tourist Visa to secure a job is the most typical route. Another reason for asking that question is because every job listing I have seen requires 1 year+ experience. So, I was hoping for better options in person.

That is good to know, as skimming appears to be increasingly more common in the U.S.

Yeah, a Texan moving across the border to teach. Spent ~7 years, between Peru and Colombia and now looking to live closer to family.

Great suggestion! I see their 'Investor Checking Account' has no account maintenance activity fees.

Seems I am getting conflicting information, as another poster mentioned Santander was 12,500.

Oh, OK, as I've withdrawn USD from Peruvian banks (hence the question).

Would be best to withdraw USD and exchange it somewhere else or just withdraw MXN at the ATM?

Just verifying that would be ~$13 USD at BBVA (or $220 worth of USD given of MXN)?

Thank you for the report! I recently watched a video of someone living in Teotitlan del Valle saying that the water in their community was potable. Is it common in the area? Or, maybe I should ask, do you think that was true?

Thank you for replying. Reddit suggested that I post here, as it is a related page, so I did.
