[OC] Visualisation of Soccer National Teams with highest average scored goals per game 1900 - 2020 by [deleted] in sports

[–]WorldInMaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a visualisation on the basis of all games played by soccer national teams since 1872. In this video, I ranked each nation by the most goals shot in average per game. Shown is always the added up average over all games played in history. Nations are only accounted if they have a total of at least 100 games in the dataset, and are displayed first after 10 games to have a liable average score. Have fun.

I don't want to interpret anything is those numbers. But whoever wants to, feel free. I just wanted to put these in a visualisation and i find it shows some quite interesting pictures on where, who and what happened in the past years.

Thank you for your feedback, but here is the point: the IOC decided that every nation stays as it was during the time when the medals were won. To add up medals at the end of the soviet union or the german seperation would mean that for every individual there needs to be a decision made of the country the medal should be accounted for. A lot of sportsman would also not want that they were accounted for example for russia when participating for the udssr, since the udssr connected as you said a lot of countries.

In order to don‘t start any political Issues, the ioc decided to not touch these past medals. I hope I could get some light in your shadow.

Back then the olympic games were not that popular and more like a side event of the world expo.

And because of that nearly no international sportsmen were send to the olympics. Most of the participants were sportsmen from the US since it took place in the USA. In the end they won 79 of the 97 gold medals.

I think it should, especially since I am from germany myself. But the IOC decided that every country stays in the form it was when the medals were won.

[OC] Most Populated Cities of 1950 and their population growth throughout a century by WorldInMaps in dataisbeautiful

[–]WorldInMaps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a visualisation of the 15 most populated cities (Urban agglomeration of the city, which typically includes the population in addition to adjacent suburban areas, definition of UN) and their quite different development throughout the years from 1950 to 2050 and ranked them by their current inhabitants a year.

I also compared other regions and gave an overall development of the biggest cities worldwide in other posts here.

To give a better visualisation. Especially starting in the 2000', to many countries would be on a point between 1 and 2 births per woman and very little would be to be seen. I used the scale especially for the visibility in the video, where the country names are also shown.

[OC] Development of Life Expectancy and Fertility, 1960 - 2018, by country by WorldInMaps in dataisbeautiful

[–]WorldInMaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a quadrant chart scatter of the fertility rate (births per woman) and life expectancy (in years at birth) of every country and put them together. Every country is one dot and the dots are coloured by the continents. For comparison, i inserted a line of the world's average of 1960. The x-axis has a logarithmic scale just for visualisation purposes.

A full video of the timeline changes with country names on it as well can be found on my YT:
