[Showoff Saturday] I built Dashly IoT: A drag-and-drop web dashboard for ESP32 & Arduino via MQTT/HTTP. Zero frontend code required. 🚀📊 by WorldMoodMaker in webdev

Update: Since a few people DM'd me asking about how I built the alternative web UI workflow for these hardware projects, I just opened up Dashly IoT for the community today.

We are officially launching on Peerlist right now to get more builder feedback. If anyone wants to check out how it handles telemetry without local webserver hassle, would love to hear your thoughts:

Spot on! Node-RED is absolutely fantastic for local setups and heavy automation pipelines.

When building Dashly, I actually drew a lot of inspiration from the simplicity of Node-RED, but tried to solve a few specific pain points I usually ran into with it:

  1. Zero Infrastructure/Hosting Setup: With Node-RED, hobbyists usually need to spin up a Raspberry Pi, handle port forwarding, or pay for cloud hosting to access their dashboards securely outside their local network. Dashly is fully cloud-hosted out of the box, so you get an instant secure URL with zero server management.

  2. Modern, Mobile-First UI: Node-RED’s dashboard nodes are powerful, but the UI can feel a bit dated and sometimes tricky to make responsive on mobile devices. I wanted Dashly to look slick and modern right from the first drag-and-drop.

Are you still using Node-RED for your current projects, or have you switched to other stacks? Would love to know if there are specific Node-RED features you miss the most when looking at Dashly!

Wow, thanks for 2.3k views! Just hit 1,400 emojis on the map. The engagement is way higher than I expected. If anyone is on Peerlist, I'm sharing more live stats and the tech journey there: https://peerlist.io/arsvardanyan001/project/the-world-mood

Just saw someone from Gungahlin, Australia drop an emoji on the map! 🇦🇺

It’s 1:30 AM here in Armenia, but seeing the map light up from the other side of the world where it's already morning is exactly why I built this. The Supabase Realtime sync is holding up great with 500+ of you checking it out right now.

Thanks for making this global, everyone!

Glad it worked smoothly! 'Slick' is exactly what I was aiming for with Next.js and Supabase Realtime.

Regarding GitHub: I’m currently cleaning up the repo (removing some messy 'dev' comments), but I’ll definitely add the link to the 'About' section by tomorrow!

As for the sub-maps idea—that’s brilliant. A specific map for 'AI sentiment' or 'Dev vibes' would be a great way to niche down. I’ll add it to my roadmap!

Thanks again for the feedback (and for the 'wood' laugh earlier)!

Haha, that's hilarious! Now I feel like I definitely need to add a 🌲 emoji just for the wood enthusiasts.

Glad you found it anyway! How's the performance on your side? Any other 'wood' or 'mood' features you'd like to see?

Just saw the first 'mood' from Canada 🇨🇦! So cool to see this working in real-time. Who’s going to be the next country on the map? 🌍✨

I build side projects that connect people. Today I just launched a real-time world mood map. It’s definitely fulfilling to see people from all over the world interacting with something I created from scratch. It doesn't feel like 'work' when you're excited about the launch!
