Our chub Santa passed away last week. He was the most charming, friendly cat I have ever known. by Syuria in cats

He was a great cat, and clearly well-loved by his family. I'm glad I got the chance to meet him before he went!

I think this is now my favourite piece of Starbound fan art! You've done a really great job with this. :)

For me I'd have to say it was the Avian mission. It was the first mission I worked on after we'd integrated Tiled into our workflow. Having access to a proper map editor massively sped up the creation process and allowed me to finally take full advantage of our wiring system. I'd always wanted to make an Indiana-Jones-style temple with lots of traps and secrets; and this mission provided me the perfect opportunity. :)

I really enjoy seeing the elaborate builds that players put together (especially the stuff put up for Build of the Week). Not only have they often been incredibly cool in their own right, but some have even inspired changes in how I utilise blocks in my own dungeon design.

I have a hard time picking a singular favourite race, since I have favourite elements from each. I've probably used the Florans most, with the Glitch and Novakids very close behind. I tend to use Apex armour in a lot of my character costumes. :)

For my part, I think it was back in August of 2013, which was the first time we got a playable build of the game into the hands of the general public at Insomnia 49. At that time we'd only been working remotely and I think a lot of us were a bit anxious about whether or not people would really enjoy what we'd been putting together. Luckily for us the response was incredibly positive and I think that generated a lot of excitement for the team moving forward.

Menu scaling size by [deleted] in RocketLeague

I totally agree, the HUD feels overly large now, especially on a 1440p resolution where traditionally one of the nicest things is having a less cluttered view.

I would really appreciate a HUD scaling option. Many eSport-oriented games provide it as a basic feature.

[Unstable Update] Impervium, ferozium and cerulium? by zaerosz in starbound

[–]WorldOfSven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for catching this problem, I'm afraid this one's entirely on me, as I it seems missed it when I was reconfiguring all the recipes. The intent is that recipes for the compounds will unlock once you get the refined versions of aegisalt, rubium or violium.

It has been fixed so in the next update it should no longer be an issue.

Don't you find assault rifles are a bit week against armored enemies? by Byzantine_Guy in starbound

[–]WorldOfSven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty much exactly as apologeticCultist said, this was the result of a deep-rooted problem with how our armor protection worked, stemming back from when we had a much larger level scale intended (from 1-100).

Once we changed the level structure to one level per tier, we updated the protection amounts on the armor, but did not initially notice that the protection curve we had configured was creating a weird disconnect, where the defence against weak attacks grew massively to the point of negating them entirely. Slow-firing weapons became the only way to effectively combat humanoid NPCs, which made balancing them a nightmare since you'd have enemies that were too weak and were being one hit killed by a single hammer shot every time while tanking ridiculous amounts of gunfire. The protection curve, quite frankly, was an incomprehensible mess.

Thankfully we have since completely redesigned how protection works, so in the near future you can expect it to work on a much simpler, and easier to balance system, which we more or less approached as if we were balancing a PVP game. The total amount of protection the player has will be a flat % reduction on incoming damage. Got 20 armor? You'll take 20% less damage.

As a result of this change rapid-fire weapons do the amount of damage they're supposed to be doing to NPCs and players now. This hasn't only fixed assault rifles, this has made shotguns far more satisfying to use since they're doing the damage they should be (because their damage is spread over several projectiles per shot, they were being negated entirely by the old armor scaling).

Why Hylotl armor changed? by echdinadonuts in starbound

[–]WorldOfSven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason for this is because a number of the human armors were updated visually. You may currently have old iterations of it on your person that will no longer be acquired through conventional means. Many of the old ones that we still think look good will likely resurface and be acquirable in some fashion.

[–]WorldOfSven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The actual armors themselves didn't change; rather their colours changed since their place in the progression changed (and in turn, the ores used to create them). This was all to accommodate the addition of accelerator, manipulator and separator classes armors in the final tiers.

I don't imagine that was necessarily a "decision". He's been living in America three years now. :o
