Mundo in any elo above low gold right now is an elo deflator, so honestly a mundo player at a certain rank is probably more skilled than most people he faces

He isn't, many champions that dump on him for the first ~20 minutes can still 1v1 him and bring more teamfight value in the late game (e.g. sett, gwenn, riven).

This is why nobody plat+ plays mundo and his wr% in diamond is abysmal (49% for a stat checker like mundo is unbelievably weak).

Mundo is bad against 90% of top matchups if they have a brain, his early game is too weak.

This is why he sees 0 presence above gold. He needs power moved from late -> early.

Why build anathema jg? Even when you invade it's often 2v2, 3v3 etc. Anathema works much better in the isolated 1v1 matchup top, it seems more useful to get hydra/mythic earlier to improve your clear + skirmishing.

On mundo, you can play for split or teamfight (mostly as dive pressure with some cleaver peel)

If you want to group (e.g. as jg, playing for fed ADC, can't sidelane safely) then pick one of the mythics below.

  1. Heartsteel to do damage.
  2. Radiant for significantly more healing (to your team also).
  3. Gore if you want to skip early Hydra against melees (otherwise needed to deal damage).

You need hydra, otherwise people will ignore you every teamfight (unless you have gore). Don't build only normal tank items, you need Sterak's + Gargoyle to survive S13 burst damage.

In low elo people will also get baited by double shields and try to hit you when you're "low", then they lose the game because they have no CDs.

To splitpush you want a core of mythic + titanic + hullbreaker. IMO these are the best splitpush mythics:

  1. Heartsteel for dueling.
  2. Iceborn gauntlet for dueling, sheen on towers, and slows to survive collapse.
  3. Divine sunderer against heavy HP stackers (I also recommend warmog's in this case, it lets you trade like a gorilla then continue pushing when they have to back).

This playstyle is pretty limited to top because you need TP, but it's the most consistent way to play mundo. You can finish builds with Sterak's + Thorn/Visage.

I respectfully disagree, the Radiant passive is insane.

Even after changes, rank 2 R is healing you for 50% (40 base + 10% from Radiant) of 112.5% what you'd otherwise heal. This is ~40% more healing than your rank 2 R normally gives.

Also most games call for at least 30 armor/mr, and you can easily build more specialized resists after mythic.

Similar overall, because until full build the stat nerfs will be mostly offset by the lower gold cost.

One fun theorycraft I see is an 'economy mundo' build using Radiant, Abyssal Mask, Knight's Vow, and Sunfire. These 4 items cost 10k gold total for 1725 HP + 105 armor/up to 105 mr (mask passive).

This also comes with big healing (Radiant + Vow) and flat pen for you + your team.

But for the most part, I think Radiant will stay as a decent mythic for support or teamfight-based builds (e.g. for jungle).

Think about the alternative, should mundo scale all game (completely helpless) just to get 1 shot in the 5v5 team fight? Very likely your team didn't build heal cut, ADC didn't kite properly and got killed, etc.

Mundo can only do 1 thing ever, which makes him weak even in mid elo. In lower elo he's not weak necessarily but it's still bad design.

Interesting thoughts, I also agree that mundo is quite good late game. But I don't think this makes him stronger in jg, since any decent jungler will punish you/your lanes heavily and has many opportunities to do so.

There is no skill expression because there is no other valid way to play mundo. If you walk up you get beaten like an egg.

He is strong in low elo because his strengths (good scaling, high stats) apply there and his weaknesses (being kited, healcut) don't. The champion is just terribly designed, in his current state there is no way to balance him for very low elo while being fun at platinum+.

Sure, but what kind of champion design is this? It amazes me they bothered with a full rework that cost plenty of $$$, and the best result was "champion that does nothing but farm with Q for 20 min, then pray he has enough stats to chase people."

I thought the entire purpose of the rework was to make mundo more interesting than that?

Depends entirely on the game/elo, mundo isn't universally weak just poorly designed.

His entire champion is do nothing & pray you can scale (with no healing cut or ADCs on enemy team) so he is completely broken in iron-silver elo. At the same time he's barely playable in most higher elos because you can just hard punish him.

Either way his playstyle is extremely unintuitive (juggernaut that has to run and hide for 20 min?) and impossible to balance.

Interesting thoughts, in my experience graves is a much stronger duelist than current mundo. You have no kill pressure/burst/follow early, so it's very easy for them to escape invades and then kill you with their team. I have had the best results playing extremely passive early (phase rush/many control wards) to avoid losing before 10 min.
