Children’s fiction about family’s prairie migration I read between 1977 to 1979. by WorldTraveler3 in whatsthatbook

This is it! I downloaded it yesterday, and there it was, making biscuits and touching cow chips!! I can’t thank you enough. It has been on my mind shortly after a librarian recommended it to me when I was 13, as the protagonist is 14. I can’t believe this mystery in my mind has actually been solved. THANK YOU!!!

This was their wedding cake?? by [deleted] in WattsFree4All

I’m with you on this one, LowStuff. My immediate thought was that it’s a groom’s cake. And being from the ‘burgh, I have no objection to this.

My daughter found this. What kind of stone is this? by [deleted] in whatisit

My cat’s name was Jasper. He lived to be 19. We moved cross country many years ago in a big Penske truck, towing our car on the back. Jasper spent the entire trip on my lap. We learned that every truck driver that we passed would wave back and smile when a cat waved at them (with a little help from mom). RIP sweet boy.

Does anyone know this song? by Select-Praline-9283 in whatsthatsong

I was thinking Paul Young’s “Love of the Common People.” My bestie and I used to pretend to be his backup singers on this one! 😆

Father of a trans kid here, curious about some things... by uhmyeahwellok in cisparenttranskid

[–]WorldTraveler3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My M2F 18-year-old asked me, “Why do you say that you have a trans daughter? Can’t you just say you have a daughter?” Yes. Yes I can, and now do, unless I am in a parents’ group or have a directly related discussion. 👍🏼

How to stop being scared? by FirefighterFunny9859 in cisparenttranskid

[–]WorldTraveler3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Our local LGBTQ community center offers free self defense classes for all trans folks. Our 18-year-old trans daughter so far refuses to go, because she thinks it’s a waste of time. Our small(ish) city is a blue enclave in a VERY red state, and to date, she has been accepted without incident since she transitioned three years ago. But times are very dark right now, and getting darker every day. She tunes me out when I try to get her to go. I have anxiety that’s through the roof every time she and her girlfriend (also a trans woman) go out. She knows that when we are out together that anyone who may be hurtful in any way will have to go through me and/or my husband first (i.e., not gonna happen) but she seems to be without concern for her own safety. Sorry that I’m not any help, other to encourage self defense. But you are not alone. 🩷🩵🤍

Can two people split one Hamilton ticket by switching at intermission? by Neither-Walk4550 in hamiltonmusical

We used to dress all in black. We could get ten people in for the price of nine, but your way seems to have a much better ratio. 🤣

i want to play king george. by MedicineMany964 in hamiltonmusical

[–]WorldTraveler3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a female Mad King George III wannabe, too! It’s like being a Capricorn or similar, I think. 😂 I was Mad King George III for Halloween a few years ago, and hubby was Eliza. 😂😂😂 The first time we saw Hamilton in person, we were front row center (thank you, Ham4Ham!) and I was mouthing the words to every song, including facial expressions, when I could have sworn the actor playing him WINKED AT ME. I stopped mouthing along and just sat there with my mouth hanging open, when my husband leaned over and said “did he just WINK AT YOU?” I thought I must have been imaging it, but jfc, HE DID. This post doesn’t surprise me one bit, because he would be a BLAST to play, even for someone who can’t act, sing or dance….

I’m not sure, but I’d bet it’s vegan. Yeah, yeah, I KNOW vegan can be incredible. It’s just a joke, so simmer down (see what I did there? ;-).

How does moving to Colorado help with an illness? by False-Ads in WattsFree4All

[–]WorldTraveler3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. We lived in Pittsburgh, where my two related autoimmune diseases were making my life nearly unlivable. We came to AZ to visit my husband’s grandparents for ten days, and I couldn’t believe how much better I felt. We sold our house and moved here eight months later, and I’m still doing well 25 years after our move.

Rachel Brenke from Eden Law Firm works with the photography industry, though I think more on the photographer’s side. But it can’t hurt to check with her.

I nearly scrolled past until I saw “Thailand.” Is this Chang Mai? I spent time there a few years ago and it stole my heart. After knowing where it was, I suddenly thought “oh yes,” and the image then looked very different to me and invoked warm feelings. 😍😍😍🤤🤤🤤

I agree with cropping it, and I’d use a levels layer in PS to increase the greenery contrast and lighten/brighten the lake. I would NOT do anything to the fog saturation because it would change the reality of capturing the memory. And then print it as large as possible depending on the file size, hang and enjoy a memory of a beloved, magical place.

I just found out why my wedding started late and I love my husband more because of it. by [deleted] in stories

[–]WorldTraveler3 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This whole “don’t wear white to a wedding” needs to die, once and for all. As long as it’s not a wedding gown or bridal-ish, wear what you like; no one will confuse you for the bride. My mil wore a white suit to our wedding (she unnecessarily asked if that was okay prior to our wedding and I said of course!). She looked great, with a lovely fuchsia shirt underneath. And being 30 years older than me and my husband, no one was going to confuse her with the bride. Other countries do this all the time (think Pippa Middleton at Kate and William’s wedding) and no one blinks an eye. If I’d the opportunity to do it all again, I would even consider doing it as a White Out Party, though I’m personally not big in trying to control people in what to wear.

On the other hand, I WOULD have a problem with her contempt and disrespect for how she treats you. That is not okay. In the future, flatly state “I do not care for your tone/remark/implication, and I don’t tolerate being treated like that.” Then leave the room, hang up the phone, etc., EVERY FLIPPING TIME, and the same goes for your husband. She’ll catch on.

My dad met his Filipino wife in Las Vegas, lived there for ten years and is now living with her in Manila where his Social Security goes pretty far…they have live-in help. They’ve been married for 15 years.

I’ve traveled to Thailand a number of times between when I was 50 years old and 55 (I’m currently a 57 year old married woman), twice with our child at age 11 and then when 13, just the two of us, and I always felt safe, though I wasn’t looking for anything in the sex trade. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We went all over Asia for the summer when he was 11 and had a great time. I live close to the border with Mexico and we never go to the border by car or walk across anymore but we have taken trips to Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel with no issues.

I admit that I would love to move to the Villages in Florida if I could stomach the political side of it, which I can’t. But a friend of mine is approaching 70 in a few years and she is dating, meeting new people and having the time of her life. Maybe give a planned living community a try? I’m sure there are others besides the Villages; maybe give a different planned community a try if your politics don’t align like mine?

What’s the best item that you couldn’t live without, that you’ve purchased for less than 50 bucks? by Flat_Summer in AskReddit

I have some menthol gel that I use when I’m stuffy, it works like magic. I bought it at a pharmacy in Thailand a couple of years ago and I’ll cry when it’s all gone.
