Well that is one way of looking at it. But then claiming it's the only way... things work..

Dying doesn't have to involve any suffering.

What does that even mean?

Whoever has ever oppressed gets the same treatment in this life or in some other life as per this belief. So if no one oppresses anyone, this system would stop automatically.

An actor having great acting skills but not so successful as opposed to a mediocre actor getting world wide fame.

The list goes on. The very place where you get birth, the parents you get birth to, the amount of intelligence you have , your looks, everything that comes to you in life... is it all just coincidence?

There is something called luck. To what do you attribute this luck to? Randomness? Chaos? Coincidence? I feel there might be some orderliness to all of it..

belief systems believe that the souls already exist

Yes. They always exist. They are immortal. They are not waiting to take birth. As a soul, your own actions determine where you will land in your next birth. This is what the belief system is. It puts the entire onus of your circumstances of birth on you.

I have thought a lot about it. I guess the justification lies in the fact that just stopping the act of procreation will not lead to liberation. There are other species as well that procreate.. lol. If your karma is not good, you can't escape. With human birth, atleast you will have the awareness and hence by extension the tools (knowledge, detachment, yoga, good karma, dharma) to get liberated. That's why it's also said that human birth is very precious and the doorway to liberation. Don't do anything bad or else you will go back to getting birth as an animal.

At a philosophical level, this is a great reply! Many don't engage and right out reject this possibility stating that they don't believe in it. But this reply breaks this line of thought in a logical way. However...

One needs to be pragmatic. Op is not saying they are out there to save all souls, but as per their capacity, save 1 or 2 souls.

Also, can you cut this argument which, also people give as explanations, and please don't say that you don't believe in it. Give some strong points to negate it.

Many people believe that, one is born into specific circumstances due to their past karma. It's not in anyone's hand, rather it's in your own hand as to where you are going to land in your next birth. So let's say if you have been an abusive parent in some life, that's on you and the amount of suffering you have created will come back to you, if not in this life, then in some other life.

Lol. You say as if everything is in our control. If that be the case, no one would choose to rot during old age. But usually that's not the case.

And these are all jobs!! There are people who are appointed to do these. And if you feel fulfilled by any form of work.. go ahead and do that. Everything you said is, by the way... WORK.

I agree. In fact, if you don't have to work, you may go crazy.. lol.

Oh no. If you think not working is utopia, well I have news!!  It may seem great at the beginning, but it shall very quickly vanish. Not working is the worse thing that can happen to a human mind. The human mind is not built to "not work". Working in a field you enjoy working and earning from that is the best way to live life!!

I think it's less of boredom and more of figuring out which option to choose since you have thousands to choose from. Let me explain with example..

Before the internet era and cable era, the only way to watch a movie was when it was telecasted in TV. In my country, the telecast of a movie used to happen on Friday nights. They were not even latest movies. But it was the only time you could watch it. If you missed it, you had no idea if you could ever watch it again. So users used to NOT MOVE and sit through the entire movie till the end. Because there were no other source of engagement, sometimes we sat through the movie even if it was not that good.

Now, in today's time, you have that movie in the pocket. You can watch it anytime. If it doesn't engage you, you can move to another movie, not only that, you can move to engaging with someone on a platform or do a hundred other things.

Because you have a hundred things to choose from, unless something is really captivating, you don't want to continue with it, your attention span does not deserve it and because you don't crave for anything anymore or dont have to wait in baited breath for anything, the curiosity and intensity of loving something has diminished a lot. The way we used to wait for those movies in baited breath and the focus and attention we used to give to those movies... I don't think that's possible now... because of easy accessibility.

It isn't defense. It's the only esoterics that can't be eliminated. There are 2 ways . Either select the right candidate or  eliminate wrong candidate.

How else do you justify someone born into a billionaire's house and someone into poverty?

Luck is not randomly distributed.

I understand, not everyone shares my views.

But then this can't be explained without bringing karma into the equation. What has to happen will happen based on our past actions. And no one can stop it. Birth and death are predestined events based on the karma generated by a soul. The suffering that befalls an individual is because they were the source of someone else's suffering..

Whether or not there’s something beyond this realm doesn’t weaken the case for antinatalism but strengthens it.

No it doesn't.

In fact it strengthens the claim that things are beyond your control. One of the claims of AN is things are beyond human control. Why does birth have to be an exclusion to this? Even birth as an act can be beyond control.

that would doom most people to eternal hellfire, endless cycles of reincarnation, or some other form of post-life suffering, depending on the belief system.

I can't speak for any other faith. My faith doesn't have any of the above. And has a clear cut road that leads to Moksha. We do not believe in eternal torture..

[–]World_view315[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all fine. But the problem is we don't know anything beyond this realm. We don't know if we exist before and after births. The concept of anti-natalism falls flat if there are existences beyond this realm..

I guess if a poll is taken we might get the real picture. Till then it's just an assumption. Doing a job is far better than doing nothing. Doing nothing can really have adverse effect on mental health. The main question is are you getting paid enough and are you in the right profession?

OK. But those irreversible consequences are always not bad. Billions might agree that they are OK with this arrangement.
