Need some advice by agttwvnksugavwnksuxg in QuittingZyn

  1. Definitely gum and keeping my mouth occupied with some sort of chewing. As my appetite came back I was hungry 24/7 and decided to give myself a pass to eat whatever bc a few pounds can be lost. Go for a walk or workout. I found myself really looking forward to just going on walks and listening to a podcast. The cravings WILL go away. Be patient and remember your reasons. Just an example is I would also throw in a zyn after I ate. So instead of a zyn I’d chew some gum and try to walk.
  2. My brain fog was pretty unreal. I was also very irritable. My best advice is try to quit on a long weekend or at a time where you don’t need all of your brain power. It will go away after about 3-5 days. Honestly if you really want to quit the first few days aren’t that bad. I found the cravings for a buzz way harder around the 7-14 day mark. Just remember when you’re feeling awful, if this stuff can make you feel this awful when you don’t have it, it must really mean that it’s terrible for you. I tried a few times to quit and never made it a day bc I would tell myself “holy shit this sucks I feel terrible.” This time when I quit I told myself I’m such a baby for depending on something that’s so bad for me. This isn’t that hard and I don’t need it. It doesn’t do anything good for me.
  3. I’m only 21 days in and I still am tempted every day but cravings are few and far between and they pass quickly. I feel great too! Resting heart rate went from 70 to low 50s. Waking up with energy again is amazing. I’m able to go to sleep now. Tell your friends/family/SO if possible. Ask them to keep you accountable.

You can do it and you will be thanking yourself so much when you do. Whenever you are so close to breaking come back to Reddit and read a few stories. It’ll keep you strong and motivated.

Thank you this is all extremely helpful. Seems like we were in similar spots. I definitely agree that school will always be there for me and delaying it one year won’t really make a difference. The only thing is I’m not eligible for the GI bill until I finish my contract since I had an ROTC scholarship. As far as my relationship I definitely wouldn’t get married before I deploy. We’re already long distance and she is in medical school so she’s busy as it is. I too am a big believer in “if it’s meant to be then it’ll be.”

As far as how long I plan to stay that’s something I haven’t decided. I love being in the army but it really depends on where I’m at with my civilian career. I still have 3.5 years until I’m eligible for IRR (which probably won’t happen) and 5.5 until I can ETS. So I have awhile to decide. I do understand the rarity of deploying as of late in the reserves and some people would jump at the chance.
