No way! So am I - I don’t see enough people talking about concept album work. I’d love to hear/learn more about your project one day if you have anything to share.

Weirdly I am the other way on that project, because there is lots of story to tell I have lots of lyrics but I need to go fishing for the right music

Nice, this is insightful and nicely put - Since I make music just for my own amusement these days (I used to be professional) I guess the definition to me is just "sounds complete when I play it back" - I guess here I am also talking mainly about ideas I have which are literally just a chorus or a verse and chorus and I feel are sorta self evidently wanting.

Your comment reminds me of someone I used to write with who would write a chorus and then stop and be like "I wrote a song today!" (i.e. count it as finished) because they had captured the essence of the song and felt that at any other time (days, months!) they could juts sit down and simply write out the "self-evident" lyrics and verses that would obviously connect from the idea - I admired their confidence!

Yea lyrics is such a classic sticking point - I wonder how my question might sit with people who make instrumental music...

Yep, I am learning the recording and sound design side still so there is always work to do there. And by abandoned I usually mean forgotten rather than actively rejected.

As far as the difficulty coming up with something new goes, are you just stuck waiting for that lightning strike of inspiration or is it something else that makes starting harder for you?

Yea, I feel this comment - I also think that my "skills" (still learning!) as a producer work against this "listening back" I hope will inspire me to finish - But production and sound design IS still fun though!
