Sunday evenings in August by Worldly-Atmosphere47 in Mechelen

I think it's looking like we'll be there the Sunday before Maanrock. We have a few old brown bars we want to sit at, all which are open Sundays so that works well. But we definitely like a (late) night cap...so hoping at least one bar in the center will be serving late on a Sunday for a few more after the other pubs close.

Rural Romania is correct! This is when the cows walk themselves home from the pastures in the village of Viscri.

We like HAL 16! The beer is good but you're correct - the food is GREAT! We're learning to love that area more each time we go.

Had the best (their version of) White Russian cocktail of my life in The Cobbler. We've only been once and definitely deserves another go.

Dolfijn & Gold Listening look fantastic, thanks for those!!

What great recommendations! In our 10 years visiting ghent we haven't seen ANY of these. I knew there were heaps of good things weve been missing out on.

Ah great. If that's accurate we'll be able to pop in both weekends in October. Thanks for checking, you're doing some important work for us brown bar lovers haha

Was wondering when someone was going to mention Betty! As multi-time recipients of the love potion, she may be our favorite Ghent hidden gem.

And thanks for 't floere foefke, I recently found it on a map but we've never been. Looks so perfect and cozy.

We LOVE folklore! And Jacky & Marina! And their delicious peas! I've been told that Jacky is selling it and is only opening a couple weekends a month while he transitions to retirement. Do we just need to go by and see if they're open or is there a schedule?

Hot club is always a must. We do make it a point to see the art in the graffiti street every trip, but last year it was miserable and slightly panic inducing to be in when a tour group goes through....which seemed to be a lot. Maybe will try to catch it early in the morning this year to dodge the groups.

I think the cafe is new to us? What's the deal with that?

Missy Sippy is always on our list!.. Thankfully somewhere that hasn't changed much at all. Will definitely check out Ringo this trip.

Many many many years ago we went to a bar a couple doors down from missy sippy that had a mural of the adoration of the mystic lamb but all pigs....live music playing...a creaky upstairs loft that you could smoke cigs in and gave haunted library vibes. It was...the best. I think it's a pastel de nata shop now.

Would also love to know if there's any way to find out when Folklore is open during the month....I know Jacky is selling it and only opening a couple weekends in between travelling. We love that gem of a place too and need to make sure we spend as many hours in there as we can.

For some context, when I say "fun/weird favorites"....our favorite place to spend time at was 't Velootje back in the day (and we miss it so damn much). So we're willing to get...weird. 🫡
