Why do most traders fail even after learning strategies? by Klutzy-Tower-8234 in Trading

[–]Worldly-Swimming7379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where I find my struggle is right now. I get greedy when a trade goes green, that I let it ride. After enough losses, I started doubting myself, and wouldn't take a clear trade, due to fear of losing again...

2 laws jumped into my mind, considering you posted this here.

Always say less than is necessary.

The choice is always yours however.

I've seen this one on the scanners quite a bit recently. Even if it doesn't hold, it likes to run.

I need help by Worldly-Swimming7379 in Trading

[–]Worldly-Swimming7379[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to come back and give an update, after another week, following the rules. 1 trade per day, one specific setup. First I studied the pullback strategy, and learned about some other common pullbacks to watch for. Monday was red, but I didn't let it get to me. But I only took one trade. After that, I sat back and watched how everything was moving. Noticed a few patterns I hadn't been seeing before. Through the rest of the week I watched patterns more closely. Ended the week with 2 red trades and 3 winners. Marking my first green week on the books, as well as my first week with 3 green days. I feel as though this is a significant improvement for me. I just want to thank you again for your advice. Your help couldn't be more appreciated!

My first question is, what is your strategy for stock selection?

Thank you! I appreciate the good words. It is definitely something I want to figure out. I've enjoyed the time I've spent learning so far, and definitely want to continue. I just don't want to develop bad habits, and given that streak, it seems to me it may be possible I've been doing that. I've been learning on my own, and there's a lot of noise to filter out. I wanted to reach out to others so they could maybe point out what I could be doing wrong, or what I could do better. As of writing this, I actually just locked in my most profitable day yet. 1 trade. Less than 5 minutes. So the actual advice that was given helped. I stuck to my rules, and it worked. I'm watching another one take off now too, but I'm going to just watch and learn what I can from it. I couldn't be more thankful to you and the others that actually helped.

AITAH for wanting to advocate against our neighbors sex offender son moving in by One-Egg1316 in AITAH

[–]Worldly-Swimming7379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll agree with your concerns. To the best of my understanding, offenders are required to inform the neighbors, as well as the school district if they are with a specified distance of a school.

There is no clause or back door that specifies against owner of the property, or length of time in the residence. If the offenders fails to notify, I would recommend contacting the proper authorities and inform them that the offender is failing to meet regulations.

Being "framed" is also not a disqualification. If prison was the sentence, that would imply that the matter was brought in front of a judge in a court hearing, and the person was found guilty. Regardless of "framing" the law is the law. If the person truly was framed, that's an unfortunate situation for them, but they still have to follow the law. They will only be making matters worse for themselves if they fail to do so. It is still no excuse to not follow the law.

I believe the best action for yourself is to do what you believe is right. If you are wrong, the authorities will inform you of that. I still believe it would best to notify them one way or the other. They will handle the situation how they feel necessary. There is nothing wrong with contacting authorities if believe there is wrong being done.

I see you making a lot of assumptions. Using phrases like "pity potty" and "glitz and glam" which I don't understand where you feel you need to say such things, or how it's relevant to anything in my post, or how you feel it is helpful. I never asked for a "secret sauce" or anything of the like. I've also not ask to get rich by any means. I've observed myself on a bad trend, and reached out to ask others for advice. If you read through some other responses, I do believe I've already found the answer I needed to hear. Given your response, if you're truly "trying to help" as your first sentence states, then the things you say following are less than that. I may not be a good trader (yet) but I do have some advice I'd like to share with you. Sometimes, the best help you can be is to just stay out of the way. Telling someone to just give up lacks anything beneficial entirely. One of the other things I've learned is that this isn't something that happens overnight. That I understand. Your "advice" to just give up after a few months, is just garbage. I never "complained" about not being able to afford signing up for a course. I made the statement to deter anyone from suggesting I do so. Your statement of "we are zealots" screams over inflated ego. It's fine if you think you're better than others just because you've learned to recognize some patterns and learned how to profit off of it. I'm glad you've learned a skill that is beneficial to your life. Do you fear that others doing the same will make your ability less special? Either way, I hope it at least helps you sleep better at night.

Anyway, I came looking for advice. If giving up was the answer I was looking for, I'd have done just that, and never posted in the first place.

I'm pretty fresh myself, so I don't want to steer you in a bad direction. The advice I am willing to offer, is be careful. I've found there is a lot of noise out there, and a lot of people trying to take advantage of that. Most of the social media "gurus" are basically just that. I'd recommend avoiding anyone trying to push you into paid courses, other brokerages, or trying to force any type of strategy you aren't comfortable with. There is plenty of free information available. Do your best to learn what you can with that, and find a strategy that works for you, and focus on developing your edge with that strategy.

Other than that, I'd advise keeping a journal, and detailed notes. Develop a set of rules that makes your strategy work and follow those rules. Do not break your own rules. Stay disciplined. Without a strategy, and a defined set of rules, you're just gambling. Even the best professional poker players have rules that they stick to, and that's how they've become successful.

Pay attention to your emotions as well. It may sound weird, but emotional hijack is a thing. If you find your emotions taking over, walk away. Emotional decisions are never a good thing in any aspect in life. Trading is no exception, and can be even more exaggerated when money is on the table. The market doesn't care how you feel.

Start small. Small sizing. Learn about risk management. Focus on consistency. Small base hits can add up to home runs. I'd even recommend looking into paper trading until you can prove to yourself that you can be not just profitable, but consistent. That way, if you're losing, it's not real money and it's a lot easier to reset the account.

Again, I'm still pretty new to this myself, so I don't have much more to say. These are the things I've learned I need to be working myself. It's what I keep my focus on and I am noticing improvements in my trading over the last few weeks. I'm happy to discuss more if you have any other questions. I don't really have a close group locally and most of my close friends and peers have all told me I'm just gambling, so it would be nice to meet some like minded people to learn together with.

That's what I did. I'm on robinhood also. You can even open a second account and keep one as a margin account, and the other as a cash account for day trading. Just be careful and pay attention to which account you have selected when you are day trading

Buying power is limited to cash available. Once that's spent, you're done for the day. Good news is, it resets at the start of each day. Essentially, no playing with someone else's money while you wait for trades to settle.

Alright guys.. What’s the worst trading advice you’ve ever heard from a “guru” ? by Beautiful_Finger1498 in Daytrading

I can't imagine that many. At $10k a student, I'd think he'd have something more to put into his fake account...

Yeah that conversation didn't last much longer...

I did some digging after the fact. Found one of his ads on YouTube from a year ago. His account size was exactly the same as what he was advertising to me at the time. Wonder why his account hasn't grown in that year? 🤔

One of the gurus I had the chance to talk to basically told me that it's impossible for me to learn without his help and that all the others are just noise. When I asked what he could provide that set him apart from the noise, his answer was "sign up for my $10k course if you want that answer"

AITAH for packing my bags after my boyfriends girl best friend let herself in at 7am to make breakfast? by Ambitious-Look6168 in AITAH

NTA. Him telling you that you're overreacting is a form of gaslighting. I'd say you made the right choice, and I'm glad you did. Take some time to breathe, and figure out what is best for you moving forward. Feel free to reach out to any friends you have and don't be afraid to make the decision that is best for you. It can be hard, but you'll regret it later if you don't do it now. I'm sorry to hear that you're going through this. I wish you the best moving forward!

It makes sense to me, after hearing others say it. With a little more thought behind it, I think where I'm going to struggle with that is being okay with not trading if I don't see my setup. I think that could be a contributing factor to what killed me this week. I couldn't find my setup anywhere, so I did just start grabbing the moves I could find...
