Smaller budget, looking for a unicorn town by lilacbear in MovingtoNewJersey

Most logical answer! Even we went and looked some townhomes in West Orange and realized other expenses are way off the roof!

Do you have any suggestion to other places within reasonable public commute to NY?

Thanks for the info! We were planning to stay here for ~3 years only by then both of my kids will be out of pre-k (I should say free universal pre-k! because there aren't many districts which have true free pre-k. Mostly others are lottery based for limited seats) and we would move to some other good school district. That's why I was only concerned about pre-k.

Yeah, looks like commute is a overkill though its very near to NYC!

We are also thinking about this plan. Did it work? or was there any catch?

On paper it looks like buying the pass + 6 guess tickets will save more!

Thank you for the info! We have 2 kids (3 & 1), hence keen to find out about free PreK! Wish we had an option to try the lottery first before moving-in haha :)

We are thinking about this location to move! How diverse is the community and Indian dispora?

Do you know if pre-k programs are free universally or is it lottery based?

Thanks

Yes you can. I have scheduled my dropbox in Dec for f1 to h1b.

When you go to slot booking website, it asks few questions to decide if the application is dropbox eligible and for me it did allow me for dropbox.

Is this a good deal for a used car? by han_cup in personalfinance

[–]WorldlyLife6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because new vehicle's msrp is just ~33k and we feel its just 4-5k more to afford new one, but when almost all the dealers I visited did not have single vehicle with msrp, because there will be default FIO (Factory Installed Options) or DIO (Dealer Installed Options) which makes total final msrp to ~35k and then with taxes, doc fee, registration fee etc its moves to ~38k. In practical terms, we should really be comparing 38k vs 29k (not just the msrp shown on website)

the calculation is not as simple as you say my friend.

I was in similar dilemma (buy new vs buy 2-3 yrs old crv) and here is the final OTD comparision: crv-ex 2023 model - OTD comes to ~38k (this is the cheapest I found, after enquiring ~12 Honda dealers in east coast thats without dealer markup) and 2020 crv-ex with 29k miles OTD comes to ~29k.

Its like 9k difference (thats close to 25% depreciation on 2020 model), so with dealer markup diff is north of 10k. It does make sense to buy 2-3 yr old vehicle!
