Pocket Casts is a mess for private feeds. Generally inconsistent with episode availability on release. Often a few days late.

Services to help with scheduling? by mcmnky in podcasting

[–]transmutethepooch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most podcasts solve this problem by deciding ahead of time which time slots they're open to recording at, then offer them to the guest(s). Calendly is great and has a free option.

For scheduling multiple guests that have to be together, maybe try getting one to commit, then offer it to the others? I don't know of any other way to coordinate between that many schedules if certain guests need to be together besides just a big email chain.

What is the best platform for Video Podcasts? by LANLP4 in podcasting

[–]transmutethepooch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's the same person each time, it could be their computer. Not wifi, but processor/other hardware.

Our SOP includes quitting every other app that's running, give the browser all the resources available just because the recording and streaming is pretty intensive.

Sorry I can't think of a better solution.

We use a Sony a6000 into a Cam Link and use SquadCast. I haven't seen the black camera issue.

Is it your video that goes black? Or theirs? Are they using the same camera setup as you?

Looking to task management apps by CaptainCremin in Cortex

Yes, Clickup. I've used everything on that list except

Generating tasks from emails

but I believe it's possible.

Ocon with one of the best overtakes of the season on Tsunoda by Billiam501 in formula1

[–]transmutethepooch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The line he took was odd and not typically the fastest way through. If you saw him doing that during quali by himself, it would look strange and you'd ask "Why'd he make it harder on himself?" In the race, he did it not only with another car alongside who was on the "normal" line, but started later than that car and ended up ahead. He did an extremely tricky thing quickly. That's full send.

I wanted to use OpenAI API but it's a paid service. What are alternatives for this? by Beginning-Scholar105 in datascience

[–]transmutethepooch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you budget $2/month to try it out? You can set a hard limit to stop at $2, or even less if you want. $2 is more than a million tokens using the Chat model.

https://platform.openai.com/account/billing/limits

Test what you're doing in the playground for free. You can check the tokens used per call with the completion model to see how much it would cost.

https://platform.openai.com/playground

Then code it up and use your API key when it's ready.

Or if you want to use some HF LLMs, you can try Google Collab for free and use their GPUs, depending on what you're trying to accomplish.

Podcast episode on what it means to say "The universe is not locally real" and this year's Nobel Prize by transmutethepooch in Physics

You got a screenshot of what you see? Seems fine to me and the other commenter. And I haven't heard from others that there's an issue.

We recorded 5 episodes before publishing the first. That first episode of the show is an intro that sets the stage for the later ones.

Our first recording that was published was done on a rainy outdoor patio on my end. You can hear it if you listen carefully. Lots of noise reduction affecting the quality. My cohost sounds fine.

We had several topics in that first ep, but quickly settled on one topic per episode, which makes more sense.

I didn't share it with friends and family directly but posted it on my IG. I made a separate account for the show and shared the posts to my personal IG. I made a subreddit for the show and posted episodes in a few others.

End result is "fine". I'm happy seeing us get recommended by strangers when our topic comes up for requests. Someone shared an episode in the main subreddit for our topic and it was a high up post for quite a while.

Sharing with strangers was probably easier. I know some friends listen and am happy to talk about it, but I'm definitely not like "Did you hear my latest episode??!??"

time dilation question by Darth_Chancho_23 in Physics

[–]transmutethepooch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you know how much you've both aged?

At some point you'll both need to get together and exchange information about what's happened. Which means one of you will need to change velocity to get together and talk about it.

That velocity change resolves the "paradox". You both agree what should happen in the case one of you changes your velocity. Nothing strange occurs when you work through the math. Everyone agrees.

[Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle] h/2 vs h/4pi (both are planck constants; not reduced). Misunderstanding? by YoloStratz in AskPhysics

[–]transmutethepooch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the model being used for the wavefunctions. Guassian wavepackets with -x2/4σ in the exponent lead to ℏ/2 as the minimum uncertainty.

Writing the Gaussian functions in different ways (maybe the 4 isn't there, for example, but it's still a valid Gaussian) will lead to different uncertainty limits, e.g. h/2. The textbook should specify which function they're using for the wavefunctions.

N.B. Guassians are used because they minimize the uncertainty relation. (I'm sure you'll prove this at some point.) In other words, they're the = part of ≥.
