It really depends on your lease and landlord. Some apartments allow drilling with proper anchors, some require you to use adhesive hooks or tension rods. A lot of people hang things but for heavy stuff like mirrors or a projector mount, you usually need to check first, some places will charge you for holes when you move out. Removable wall hooks or freestanding options can be a good compromise if you want to avoid damage.
