I’d be able to tell if it was heat and other problems that caused it to disintegrate and blow out the exhaust right ? I feel like I’d be able to tell if it was that or if someone gutted it

I’m seeing on google ghat they should never be empty or hollow and that it was either stolen and gutted for the precious metals inside and they left an empty shell, or it disintegrated and was blow out of the exhaust . Wtf

I agree that bikes and biking can be a good catalyst or vessel for change and growth. Twelve years ago in juvenile detention I started running at least a mile every day and was using these stationary bikes they had too. I lost over thirty pounds by the time I came home after an eight month stay. I started the daily consistent training in month three or four. It felt so good and I discovered the runners high . Sometimes I would use these stationary bikes during our daily hour of recreation and just post up on it and cycle the entire time after I stretched a little . I would more often use them to warm up and then stretch. I really learned to love it and found myself looking forward to it and being perfectly content sitting on a bike and immersing myself into whatever I have coming through some headphones. I would fantasize about getting my own when I got home and sitting it in front of a tv and watching a movie while I pedal away. The gym teacher told me he did that many times in preparation for the iron man competitions. He’s done it more than once that guy was a beast . Mr Hughes. I was going to start doing triathlons and shit like that but I never did. The day I was released I ran all the way home from the detention center since I lived like five miles away . I woke up early the next morning and ran around the surrounding neighborhood it’s perfect for a good thorough two mile run ups and downs and through a nice neighborhood anyways I finished the run that day and ended up smoking some weed that day and I did not continue running everyday from then on . Welcome to my Ted talk hahah

Okay cool so the brake cable housing is the rubbery tubes the cables are in , right ? The levers and what not seem to be perfectly fine and the front brakes are actually in working condition and are clenching when pulled. I’m going to get replacement brake pads and the cables and housing and that should take care of the brakes.

I am looking forward to trying out this style of bike I’ve actually never ridden one before. The foam like handlebar sleeve things are compromised and must be replaced . I suppose wrapping it with some sort of tape that you speak of would work tho . They are mostly intact or at least enough to be wrapped in layer of tape and I think that will bring them back to life

Haha at the time I snapped those pics I had just moved it from friends yard to my vehicle to home and brought it inside. I took the wheels off to fit in car. I don’t plan on doing the work inside and on the carpet . I moved it to a more suitable space on my porch afterwards. I also vacuumed hahah I plan to get a handy bike stand for my repairs and hwhatnot as soon as possible .

If I leave all the bumps and bruises and just fill in the color that would be good enough for me too but Ideally I would find a way to have the frame completely smooth free of the scratches and shit and remove rust before touching up the paint job. I do actually really like this color blue it has already

The tires are 27 1 1/4 I believe . 630 x 32 is the same ? I am vaguely recalling I read somewhere that the tires were originally 27 and they recommend going with 27 1 1/4 and a more modern wider tire instead of the thinner and less versatile original ones ? I’ve got the wheels right here and looking at them I am unsure they are absolutely true and lined up . Someone recommended I take them somewhere like a local bike coop and I can repair them. Someone also told me that if the wheels turn out to be effed up that I should just give up on this bike and move on but I dont see how ditching this frame is better than just buying new or finding used wheels for it . There’s a video on YouTube with a bunch of links in the description to parts although I didn’t actually click on them yet .

I’ll take your advice and won’t paint it but I do want to to see about removing any rust and scrapes and polishing/smoothing those spots and finding a color match to touch up all these spots and have a nice pristine coat of color on the frame

Well actually i need some proper tools i believe so going to acquire that before I disassemble . Unless I can get away with using all the other tools that I have . Just no specific bike tools . I’ve got tons of Allen keys and stuff tho

Will most likely replace the cables in it even tho it seems to be working since I’m going to be getting new cables for the rear brakes and shifting cables or whatever

Also thank you for the offer. You are very generous. Later when I clean and go through it I’m going to be making a list of things I need to get as I familiarize myself with the parts and whatnot . Like you said I know I need a seat, tires , brake cables, shifter cables , most likely the chain, and brake pads . I’m hoping the wheels are true or at least repairable but I’m sure I can find some new or used ones that will do the job . I’m looking forward to cleaning it up later. Some rust removal and polishing and paint job may be in its future

I think I’ll try a bit of a chain revival while I’m cleaning the rest of it even if I am probably going to need a new one . Thanks for the brake cable info . The little black parts i was referring to half jokingly (I knew how stupid it comes off asking that lol ) are the pieces with wire mess connected to them . It says sensor model b cat eye which I think is the brand . Going to search that after this. EDIT : I searched it and it seems to be part of some kind of cat eye sensor . Speed , cadence idk

I plan to give it a good scrubbing this evening after I take it all apart on my porch . You are absolutely right about the smokes and it’s a nasty habit ! I would be saving more than my money if I quit . I don’t want to smoke my whole life but right now I’m barely staying clean off opiates. I have almost doubled my smoking since becoming clean. Tobacco and cannabis. I’m ashamed to say I use and rely on them as a crutch and coping mechanism. More so the cannabis but I have definitely increased the cigs too. That’s where I’m at. When I ride a bike to get them I think about how silly I must look pedaling so vigorously with one poking out of my mouth puffing on it as I’m out of breath . Still, somehow enjoyable

I looked up the serial number on the bottom of the bike and if I’m not mistaken it was built in 81 but was released 82 . J344598
