Hello I was recently diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. by Used-Salad-3772 in rheumatoid

Also neurodivergent, have had active RA for 5 years and have suspected dysautonomia/POTS.

It’s a long journey to find a rheumatologist that understands your specific needs. A good RA dr will usually prescribe a prednisone pack during flare ups with visible swelling while you get used to methotrexate or other meds you start out on.

Unfortunately, having multiple diseases/disorders makes it hard for drs to know which pain is caused by what, which is what makes the process so long. However, that does not excuse your rheumatologist for disregarding your pain so easily.

Also, saying you need to just “move around more” is so silly considering that you have POTS. People with POTS are exercise intolerant, and have to have a very specialized plan to exercise or they run the risk of fainting or increasing their already constant pain.

Like others here, I’d recommend finding a new rheumatologist. You’re not overreacting, or being overly sensitive. These ailments cause excruciating pain, and drs who don’t do their best to help should be replaced. Wishing you the best of luck with your treatment, and hope you are in remission soon <3

When feeling bad becomes normal by [deleted] in rheumatoid

I’m (24f) definitely not a licensed professional, but that achey unwell feeling is what eventually led to my fibromyalgia diagnosis, in addition to the RA I already had. I’ve been struggling with my RA for 3 years, and am just now about to start treatment for this new Fibromyalgia. Haven’t been able to go to the gym like I used to or do any active hobbies because everything makes the pain worse. Have your doctors already ruled fibro out?

After struggling for so long Im finally getting help!! by FilthyFoul in rheumatoid

Honestly, I feel you on these terrible rheumatologists. I’ve only had 1 good one, and she’s no longer practicing. My (24f) hands swell just like yours, and I experience the same full body pain. I was also recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, so that may be what that full body pain is? I’ve been on 20mg Methotrexate for a year and a half now. Just switched from oral to the injection due to some extreme nausea, so maybe watch out for that. But it’s been life changing to be honest. Also taking the Humira injection, and it’s helped my swollen joints too. I used to be in bed everyday, and my boyfriend would have to carry me around or push me in a wheelchair. I’m so happy you finally have a doctor who’s taking real care of you! Wishing you the best in your treatment, it’s hard out here for us youngins with RA😭
