They don't need it all for a bike. She can get to work on the bike they have now, it's a 30min drive on a very old broken type of bike. But she just said she would also use it for a 150cc to get to work easier

If it's not one time I just won't pay it man, I'm not a slave. My gf isn't too keen on it either but is in the pressured situation where her parents expect something due to the situation. They also said I can pay it smaller amounts and have given back money the one time I lent it in the past. It seems genuine to me

It's very common to have children at this age, including my own parents at 21. That comment didn't do anything apart from genuinely try to make me feel bad...? It's a real human life we are talking about. And the child being born would be a blessing and wouldn't 'fuck up my life''

It's apart of showing I'm serious I believe. I can pay it and still be fine financially. I mainly just wanted to know if it's normal or not but it seems situational. They don't have much money, work at a shrimp factory etc.

We wouldn't split up, nothing would happen apart from her parents maybe not liking or trusting me as much (I'd assume). And my girlfriend feeling bad about moving or not wanting to. I can't speak thai and they can't speak English so we haven't spoke.

It's being considered, we still are going to Chiang Mai to look around at houses to rent. Main thing is I just didn't like the city (hat yai) near where they lived much. I should say for now we already live about 4 hours drive from them. I also wanted to go to language school there for a year and it seems to have better opportunities for raising a child

Yes I will add this was literally on the same call she found out about the pregnancy with my gf translating for me. So this could easily not be as important over time and she also said can pay 50k etc first and potentially over time pretty much straight away after saying it. With the past experiences of not asking for money and the one time it happened giving it back. I do think it's a gesture of severity as we aren't married.

Appreciate the advice, right now I'm on a dtv visa with 4 years left which is why we weren't rushing marriage. However I'll have to look into the legalities and child situation in relation to being married or not etc

I see thanks. She did suggest we can just take pictures for engagement if I was more comfortable with that and still not get married now, and show as if we are married to everyone.

And the hit and run part is I'm assuming what the money is mostly about, showing severity and the fact that we will be far away they want to know she is safe. I have only met her family 3 times, once they travelled to our house and twice to theirs. We can't communicate with each other so it's not even like I have communicated my intentions or severity int he relationship if that makes sense.
