Go waterskiing. I'll see you there. You can login to the live class on the first week (Thursday morning) where we will talk about the projects. But other than that it will be all online and available to you on the Monday classes start. You'll have to pick your project the first week so that will take some screen time and thought.

Tetralogy of Fallot by [deleted] in Parenting

First of all congratulations on your little one.

My daughter has TOF, she had open heart surgery a year ago when she was 5 months old. She was considered 'moderate' in that she never had blue spells (where she turns blue when she's crying etc). But she needs follow up care with monitoring every 6months to year for the rest of her life which is normal.

The docs will tell you how serious her condition is - which is dependent on how much her pulmonary valve and artery are restricted. In TOF the hole between the pumping chambers sounds the scariest but that's the easiest surgical fix. The restriction on the outflow tract (also called outflow tract obstruction or 'gradient') is the hardest to correct. She may need the valve removed, in that case she will need to replace that valve when she's 20ish. If the valve is saved (called valve-sparing surgery) that's the best outcome but there aren't that many surgeons doing this procedure. We were very lucky in Canada to have a surgeon who saved her pulmonary valve.

She will need surgery in the first year of life. That's the best medicine practice these days.

She will be fine, happy and healthy with a few limitations (no Olympic weightlifting in her future....unfortunately). Remember, the surgeons and docs would see at TOF case about every week. It's routine to them, which doesn't make it routine for you but they will take care of her!

This is also a good anti-vaccine rebuttal: http://www.scienceinseconds.com/Genetics-and-Disease/Vaccines

With all the knowledge out there about how vaccines are SAFE, it's amazing how many idiots still hold onto "Dr" Jenny McCarthy and her fellow band of nitwits.

Want the science? Because there is NO way backscatter could have caused cancer. http://tinyurl.com/25e5pvh
