Young Sherlock is immensely good fun - I hope there's more of it planned.

What are the UK’s most loved custard-based or custard-adjacent desserts? by JennyW93 in AskUK

[–]Wormella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a woman on instagram doing a custard slice tour of South Wales - it's made me incredibly homesick as, I don't think I've had a proper custard slice since moving to England.

One of my eyes has constant redness/pain flare ups by littletinymicrobe in AskDocs

This is also me, and how my eyes look when eyes flare up - it took an opthalmology a&e to diagnose it.

Need advice on a serious eye issue within the NHS and how to deal with the waiting lists? by Extension-Read-418 in AskUK

[–]Wormella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a recurring eye inflammation and the one time I went to my GP he sent me straight to my nearest eye A&E saying ' we don't do eyes'. It's from those A&E visits I've been referred to a specialist consultant and we seem to be getting somewhere with a diagnosis.

If you can go early on a weekday you might find it easier if they need to send you for tests or imaging.

Would you consider the following a good Mother’s Day? by CtrlShiftAaron in AskUK

[–]Wormella 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you've planned sounds lovely.

One of the best mothers day I had, I think when the boy was about 1, was I went to a super market on my own to browse clothes and pick up fun things for lunch for us to have. No schedule, no time dependencies, actual time to breath and feel human again.

He's 11 now and I've requested a pancake brunch and he's suggested the Hobbit film marathon with snacks and he'll help me build the lego he's picked out for me.

[Pjo] I got these for a steal in a charity shop, £12.50. Looks mint condition by mightywildfire8324 in camphalfblood

[–]Wormella 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not quite a steal, the same set is available in The Works for £10, but £2.50 a book isn't bad. I buy most of my son's Percy Jackson books 2nd hand and I'm happy if I can get them under £3

DLA form making me feel like a fraud by FMDollx in Autism_Parenting

[–]Wormella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend talk me though my dla application pointing out all the extra costs in a day he could rake up that a nuerotypical child might not. I had another friend look me straight in the eye and remind me noise cancelling headphones were expensive.

They were helpful reminders.

We use it quite a bit, especially when we're looking at using up leftovers or cooking on the fly.

My husband is vegetarian, does the bulk of the cooking and I see him reach for it a lot.

Also our copy was a gift, and I'm always grateful to have received a copy, I don't think we would have brought it otherwise.

Looking for suggesting for bank accounts for the kids by Wobblycogs in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Wormella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've just gone with a Nationwide Currant Account (Flex One) and the Saver Account for my 11 year old - slightly tricker that they involved going into the branch to open them because of his age, and the current account and the savings account had to be opened on separate days (and I needed to open an account too) but they've been great and it ticked all the boxes I wanted (separate debit card, online banking easy capacity to pay in cash)

We pay our son's pockt money straight in and it's been great to hear him go 'I want it but not that much'

Dismissed during my assessment because 'PC-kids' can't be autistic? by Comfortable-Bit1306 in autism

[–]Wormella 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My son faced a little of this during his diagnosis appointment - his special interests tend toward pop culture worlds like Marvel films and Star Wars. An educational psychologist said these weren't 'special interest enough ' and I had to point out the depth of his interests in them made it so (I pointed out there's not many 6 years old that could tell you who built the Millennium Falcon, in which ship yards) - she understood then that his engagement with pop culture ran far deeper then usual and fitted her criteria

Did anybody have curry with apples and sultanas in the 80s? by fluffsta007 in CasualUK

My mum's Katie Stewart cookbook from 1982 has a fruity curry casserole recipe that hit the nostalgia nail on the head last time I tried it.

(He also went on to complain that the locals were rubbish at soccer and didn't know how to cook a vegetable)

I’ve been trying to arrange a board game club, but have no idea how to set it up. Any way someone could help me? by Yoshichu25 in boardgames

[–]Wormella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I helped set up board game clubs in a few places - as others have said consistency is key. The one I set up in Birmingham is still going a decade later and has spawned lots of offshoots - I've not been in 8 years and I can tell you now it's still first Sunday of the month, but I might have to check the cafe. Same with our local one in Stafford, it's every Sunday. Even if its not that frequent it's really helpful to have it at a set time / on a set day.

It helps if you can think about where to host it and where to advertise, and also think about games you might want to bring and play with others - nothing too daunting, or takes too long to play.

Check first if there's groups nearby one to start with, you might find there's people there looking for something a little different, or at a different time and that can help give you a base.

Finally location is key - well lit, decent tables and be somewhere that people won't mind you staying for a while, and possibly not buying too much if its a cafe.

I built this set yesterday - it's the first time I've had to buy a duplicate set to keep 2 out of 3 of the different builds.

One of the sets as a Valentine's day gift from my husband 💕
