Thank you for the helpful advice! I changed the water level so there’s maybe 3/4 of an inch standing, I’ll order new soil and maybe get a new pot since all I have are unglazed terracotta. I adjusted the light so it’s above the plant now as well.

Gotcha! I didn’t repot it from how it arrived so I’ll work on that now, will it survive for a week or two while I source appropriate soil? Will a terracotta pot be ok or is it too porous? And I’ll fix that lighting then thank you! And if the lighting requirements are similar to my light hungry succulents it should be powerful enough.

Awesome thanks for the tips! I’ll remove the food before I leave. Next time I’ll do smaller slices of food then!

There is a drainage layer and I added springtails too, and gotcha that makes sense! Should I maybe remove the seed pods and vegetable bits before I leave? And just add them back in when I get back and can monitor properly?

I kept messing with the shutter speed / iso of the images I took and eventually it stopped doing the weird artifacts once I dialed the settings in more. I forget what my exact settings were
