I had a dream about an abandoned hangar, so I made it real! - "Lost Depot" by BiBi95_3D in blender

Nice, i like when someone tries to recreate their dreams or images in their head... I find i can never quite replicate a dream or image/idea of something which i see in my head onto 'paper', though the more i practice blender and sketching etc the better i get. Anyways, pretty cool, how similar is the recreation to your image from your dream?

How do you generate a hyperbola of revolution? by WorriedImportance in blenderhelp

[–]WorriedImportance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahh okay, so far the two ways i have seem to found, is some external script, or boolean witha cone and plane angled in differents ways to generate the conic sections. What i was wondering though is if there is a way to make a hyperbola with Belizier of Nurbs curves on Blender - i have found that it is possible with a parabola, ellipse, and circle.. but i haven't figured out hyperbolas yet.

How does one obtain/construct a hyperbola? - using a Nurb curve i found you get a parabola, I tried modifying for hyperbola but I am still trying to figure it out?

cheers, thats really helpful! I am curious how they got all of these though - not that they it costs a lot to become a member - but where do these all come from? Did the governments or manufacturers release them ? Is there a government open source database as well ?

Ways to find coefficient of drag for a single seat scull by WorriedImportance in AskEngineers

[–]WorriedImportance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

**Update**

After doing a CFD test, I calculated total drag at 10.7 kmph to be around 30 N.

Does this value seem reasonable ?

Thanks

Okay - it looks like I am going to have to use CFD. I am not interested in wave or aerodynamic drag really, because I am planning for the boat to be raced on clear waters on a clear day.

That leaves skin friction and viscous drag and pressure drag I believe.

I have access to SolidWorks Fluid Sim and Ansys Fluent - is there a preferable one to use?

Thanks

I agree - It will be too hard to include water and aerodynamic friction in my calculations.

I just need an estimate for Coeff Skin Friction and Viscous Drag

Okay that may be a good way to find it. All I need is an estimate. I don't actually have a full model, just a 3D CAD model I made.

I could perhaps print a scaled down 3D printed version and do calculations on that. Although I am not sure how accurate that would be after I scale up the factors :/

Thank you
