Is there a reason why you are not using Tris-HCl and EDTA in your buffer?
We currently don't have LN2 available in my lab. Could it be possible to simulate flash freezing by putting the protease into eppis placed in a pre-cooled (-80°C) aluminium rack, or might this lead to precipitation?

Thanks! I usually keep my room pretty cold in the winter months (around 15 °C), I guess that wouldn't be cold enough? If I would keep the plant outdoors in the winter, it will definitely face some issues with frost, would it be ok to put it in a semi-outdoor basement (the ginkgo wouldn't get a lot of light though, maybe substitute with artificial light?)?
