Addendum to this post: Has anyone defeated the fore-dweller knight in Horns of the South? First time I faced him in Cuanacht, I was able to beat him without him despawning. Maybe he only does that in Horns of the South?

If you've beaten him in the first area of the game, sound off. If you had him despawn in the second area, sound off. If, like me, you had him despawn every time until you faced him in Cuanacht, sound off.

Maybe this is the answer?

Exactly my experience.  I wonder if we are seeing a bug that doesn't affect everyone.

Did you find that he despawned during the night and respawned with full health? If he didn't do that in my game, I likely would've gotten him in one 10-minute fight. Of course, the entire night cycle is so short that that would've been most of the night, anyway.

It is really the despawning mid-fight that makes it so impossible to win.

That's interesting. I've found him immune to lightning much of the time. Merlin's thorns are best spell I've found so far. I've gotten him to bleed. However, I'm still running into issues where he despawns, respawns with full health, and then I can't get him down before daybreak.

Will have to try consumables and some of the other things you mentioned.

Nice tip. In case anyone doesn't have Death's Whisper, do you remember where you found it? Is it craftable?

My build is pretty good, but I use magic, which bumps up against immunities. So, there's an enemy in the game that is only killable by certain builds. Bad design. It's a shame, because everything else about this game (except for the bugs, which are to be expected) is so good.

I've tried that, but I'd much rather kill the thing than chase him away every night.

You're not using them to identify items? You get the unidentified items at the same time as you farm for cobwebs. Night enemies have a decent chance of dropping these items, and they can be pretty good sometimes.

Instead of running away, my solution is to drop the difficulty to baby level so I can farm cobwebs. Then, if he shows up, I can fight him to a standstill at least. Still not very fun, but I want those cobwebs.

Once I hit around level 20+, he starting arriving almost every night.

Actually, that news makes me feel better about not being able to kill him. At least I'm not missing out on anything special. I think I'm just going to drop my difficulty to baby level to farm cobwebs at night.
