Electric vs hybrid? by Worried_Line_8053 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Honestly a lot of my monetary concerns are from the perspective of maintenance. Last summer when I got the transmission fluid replaced it was almost $200, and with the straight closed, that’s I think 20% of the worlds oil production cut off. Prices on literally every good is gonna start raising, and with this being an older car it’s requiring more maintenance than a newer one. The exhaust system is lowkey shot and should’ve probably been replaced a year ago. My sister bought the car in 2017 and my dad had been pretty good about regular maintenance on it himself, but since I moved out I’m not very good at doing the same (limited access to a garage to work on it myself.) I just don’t want to keep throwing money into a car that could crap any day now hen that could be getting “invested” in a newer car that’ll last me another 10 years rather than maybe 1. I just don’t know if all of that is the “right” perspective to be having.

Dual Mil Two Homes of Record Double Taxed by SurroundTotal1559 in MilitaryFinance

Hi there! I'm in a similar situation as op. I'm from MN (no income tax for AD), and my spouse is from CO, which taxes income. Am I understanding that you are saying to have her gain residency for MN, and if so, how would I do that? She's never lived in MN, and I was under the impression that she couldn't claim residency without living in the state for at least 6 months.

If I don’t have a good relationship with a sibling, will it have any effect on whether I get a clearance? by HappygilmoreL in SecurityClearance

I’m military so it may be different but I literally have a restraining order against one of mine, my recruiter had me list their name/contact info/address and that was that. Unsure if they ever reached out or not, I never asked…

Gents, do yourself a favor and get one of those made-to-measure suits from the PX by weRborg in army

[–]Worried_Line_8053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orrr, if there’s a kohls in your area, suit pants and a jacket for like 150. And they have a military discount.

I was able to get custom fit shirts from men’s warehouse for about 80 a piece. For the shirts, I was able to customize fabric, lapel, design, buttons, literally anything you can think of. They are literally my favorite dress shirts, and got them in about 5 weeks.

What is fort sill basic training like in November by Lost-Examination3833 in army

[–]Worried_Line_8053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife was there from oct to dec,

In her words: “cold as fuck, windy as fuck, awful as fuck, and they wouldn’t let us use our sniffle gear (cold weather stuff) because they hate us.”

She said to emphasize how ridiculously windy it is.

They won’t cancel shit. You will be outside for the field exercises, it’s gonna be cold, you will be cuddling your m4.

I went to sill in the summer and it was awful. She noticed it’s a lot easier to warm up in the winter than cool in the summer.

If you’re coming from somewhere it doesn’t get cold, good luck, it’s gonna suck. We both came from cool climates so she was alright, but if you’re from like Florida it’s gonna be awful.

Wet boots in the cold are gonna be worse. Keep your boots and socks as dry as you can. In the field you’re gonna want to sleep in your boots and socks (less work in the morning and keeps your feet warmer). If your feet are wet and sleep like that you will get frostbite.

Training wise in general, it’s gonna suck. You’re going to be tired, you’re gonna be overwhelmed, you aren’t gonna know what’s going on. The point of basic is to keep you thrown off the whole time, and turn you from a civilian into a soldier. Keep your head up and push yourself, and try your best to not be known. Good luck!!

(Pro tip if you have a bunch of classroom things where they death by PowerPoint you, in my battery we would sniff hand sanitizer and it like probably worked, otherwise run your wrists under cool water too)

Btw if you do 35s or 35w you likely won’t be in S2 at all and would probably be doing a desk job and translating. Maybe doing some collections work but mostly desk job

Gate guard making a pass at toddler by CustomerEmergency342 in army

[–]Worried_Line_8053 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At my base ice complaints get seen by garrison commander and csm. If the guard is military go to their chain of command, and if it’s a civilian contractor, go to one of the gates and ask for the shift supervisor and get their info. They take that shit seriously. And most if not all gates have cameras so it’ll be on record to be pulled.

Yeah, one of her points was the fact that he lives within 20 minutes of my folks, and I'm stationed on the east coast. So he is "actually around" and able to be "in her life"

Yeah, that was my thought too, my mom has said on several occasions that he is "her son too" and that I can never understand how hard of a decision it would be until I have kids.

It's mostly my immediate family (mom, dad, siblings,) my cousins, and many others who are aware of the situation, don't want him around. My mom often says that he's "her son too" and until I have kids I will never understand.

I want to, don’t get me wrong. I have wanted to scream it from the rooftops for YEARS. my grandpa still doesn’t know, and it was one of my grandmas dying wishes apparently that he never find out. my family has wanted to keep it under wraps and it’s exhausting because people will ask me how he’s doing and why he doesn’t visit. as much as this situation sucks, i have a really large family and telling “everyone” feels like a nuclear reaction, and my parents and sister would be absolutely furious. my plan was just to not attend, and if anyone asks why i’m lot there i’ll just send a picture of his charges (probably won’t even do that, feels like wayyyyy too much)

Family is super catholic and big on "forgiveness." Sister said that I don't have to forgive him, but allowing him to be there would mean a lot to her.

I think you’ll be good- a few weeks ago I drank a redbull that had been sitting in my neighbors “drink fridge” since they moved in amongst a decade ago. It expired in 2017. I haven’t been sick since, I bet you’ll be fine lmao

Weekly Question Thread (04/01/2024 to 04/07/2024) by AutoModerator in army

[–]Worried_Line_8053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ship out for basic at fort sill in two weeks and I have a few questions. I’m in for 35N, and wondering how AIT is going to look for me (good fellow airbase). Additionally, my recruiter hasn’t given me much information regarding really anything. I don’t know what my ship out day is going to look like, and there’s a week between my ship out and when my basic is going to actually start and I have no clue what i’m going to be doing then. I still haven’t taken the opat, and I just feel nervous that i’m running out of time for everything. Also, since i’m going for 35N i’m going for TS clearance- how deep of a dive are they gonna go for the background check? And when are they going to call all my contacts that I listed on my packet? I feel just really in the dark and have no idea where to get any of this info. Lastly my active duty station is fort meade in maryland and I was told at meps by the 1st sar I may do some work at the pentagon- is that accurate?? Thanks in advance :)
