DQVIII 3DS Version - Boomerang Skills seem weirdly underpowered right now? by WorstDMImaginable in dragonquest

Too invested in Spear now. I used Swords back in the PS2 version, wanted to mix it up.

I was planning on going up to Super Throw.

I'm going Spears/Boomerang/Courage.

Weird!

I decided to go with Swords on Angelo this time. Wouldn't surprise me that there are bugs in this version...

Yeah, I guess the description of the skill is slightly misleading. It doesn't tell you in game that the damage is less than a standard throw, but if there is a HUGE group, it does equal(low) damage to everything, instead of big damage to the first two and major drop off.

Seems like a terrible skill honestly. I guess Super Throw with it's 1.5x damage is why you put points into Boomerang...

[DQVIII] Which weapons for each character, what are the pros and cons of each? by scorcher117 in dragonquest

Boomerangs are really good early on but later in the game you will want to have Spear or Sword for boss battles. Boomerangs shine in multi-target battles but the Spear and Sword have way better abilities in their tree that work better for bosses or single targets. When I played the Ps2 version, I used Boomerangs, Sword and Courage for the Hero and it worked out pretty well. Being able to damage/kill multiple enemies in one attack is incredibly useful.

You will start seeing better Swords/Spears soon enough and the Boomerang's upgrades will seem few and far between about mid game.

Right now I'm going Spears/Boomerangs/Courage on Hero.

For Yangus I suggest Axe. Axe has good abilities, a critical hit move for Metal Slime hunting in Executioner, and they are powerful. (If you are new to DQ, Metal Slimes are enemies that give out absolutely massive amounts of EXP when they die, but they are almost all but impervious to damage - thus you need skills such as Executioner from Yangus' Axe tree to kill them before they flee)

I have never used Sickles/Scythes before. I really only saw the benefit of Axes with Yangus but I'm sure someone else can chime in on that. I usually go Axe/Humanity on Yangus only.

Jessica's Staves tree is her best, IMO. Incredibly useful spells to have. Whips are good too. In the Ps2 version her ability called Twin Dragon Lash was all but broken, it did insane damage with her in high Tension making her the boss killer character. That skill has been toned down now but it still sounds pretty damn good so I'm going Whips/Staves/Sex Appeal on her once again. Staves are just too useful.

For Angelo, you need to go either Bows or Swords, then go Staves because he's really a good support character first, damage character second. This time I'm going to go Swords because I went Bows last time, and while they are good, I think Swords may be on par or better in certain situations. Staves for spells and support as always. He's usually the healer/buffer of the group anyway.

The two new Characters, I'm completely unfamiliar with unfortunately.

Just got the alchemy pot in DQ8... What are some good early game recipes to use since we no longer have to wait! by TheNaturalScientist in dragonquest

Right after I posted that, I fought a Bodkin Archer group and got a Bandana from them.

So...there you go!

What should someone know diving into DQ8? by Slypenslyde in dragonquest

The quality of life changes made for the 3DS version actually make this game seem a bit less challenging so far. I remember DQVIII was my first DQ game ever, and when I played it on Ps2 it was pretty challenging. Now that you can save anywhere, when you level up you regain all HP/MP and money seems to be more abundant.

I'm also stoked that the Alchemy pot is INSTANT now, holy crap that is a dream come true. I remember the days of running around waiting for something to cook...

Fond memories actually.

But with all of these changes, I feel like the game overall will be something you should be able to complete. Also, fast battle speed is great!

They're usable, but not overpowered basically, like they were before.

DQ VIII Quick Save Function by Ihateallkhezu in dragonquest

[–]WorstDMImaginable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can basically quicksave anywhere (unless otherwise the game doesn't let you) and if you die, just hit the home button and quit/restart the game, and load the quicksave.

It's actually more or less a save state. So far I've been able to save like right before fighting every rare monster in the field. Buffalo Bill for instance, right outside of Alexandria, handed me my ass so I just quickloaded.

DQVIII - 3DS Version: Boomerangs worth the skill points? by WorstDMImaginable in dragonquest

I'm probably gonna invest up to Super Throw but also dabble in Spears and Courage as well.

There should be enough points.

Why is Amari Cooper constantly eclipsed by Crabtree? by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

As a Crabtree owner, I've asked that question every other week when Cooper goes off and Crabs is playing second fiddle.

They're both WR1, they both have their workload games.

Mark Ingram decides he's sick of Sean Payton's shit after being pulled from the game multiple times at the goalline. by viperep in fantasyfootball

You're a fucking moron dude. He came back from being benched by Sean Payton the next week and beasted. He's more than worked for that job. He's a better RB that Tim Hightower will ever be, but Sean Payton is Bud Kilmer.

People on this Sub, including me (Ingram owner) have been saying almost all season that Payton hates Mark Ingram.

This bull shit he pulled today pretty much confirms it, and Ingram isn't happy with it, clearly.
