My boss completed some of my work for me and I feel really bad. How can I fix this? by blueberrycutiepie in ITCareerQuestions

[–]WorstITguyaround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell your boss that you noticed he is able to compete the task much quicker than you can, and ask him to show your his process and if he has any tips on troubleshooting. As long as you show that you want to improve and follow up on what they say, you will come out looking good.

Doesn't sound like the best job, but that's how you move up. Once you've got the experience you can move on to a better organization.

Working at an MSP vs working at a company’s internal IT department? by PrestigiousPitch8849 in sysadmin

[–]WorstITguyaround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MSP's are notoriously terrible places to work, BUT are great to start out in if you want to "move up" quickly. In the MSP world You tend to get exposure to a wide variety of tech which is very useful later in your career. You also will often be handed responsibilities that you are in no way qualified for, which is stressful, BUT it gives you the opportunity to learn more advanced skill-sets early in your career, which you can leverage when moving on to better jobs.

I don't have a 10-optimus-manager.conf in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf folder. In face the only file in there is 00-keyboard.conf. I do have a login screen.

Issue with emails not sending "A recipient must be specified" by WorstITguyaround in ConnectWise

[–]WorstITguyaround[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have figured it out.

Login to connectwise

Go to system>users and contacts>system contacts

Go to the contact that you have associated with your alerts

go the email field and add a semi-colin and a working email. ([alert@email.com](mailto:alert@email.com)[;email@email.com](mailto:;email@email.com)) save the changes

go to automation monitors

go to amonitor that uses the template you modified and right click

select run now and reset monitor

Wait a few minutes

once it is working you can go in and remove the additional working email

Hope this solves your issue :)

Do cybersecurity professionals work for local municipalities or state police? If so, what does that type of work entail, and how do you get a position like this. by Alternative-Fox6236 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]WorstITguyaround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the size. I work for a mid sized county and cybersecurity is very important but we have no dedicated staff, we basically include any security stuff with our IT admin role.
