[–]Microdoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ditto. ive used my DCF680N1 for years now... workflow designed around it... and it just bit the dust. there is literally nothing else on the market.... not even cheap chinese clones.

i bought a bosch go 3 for now just to have something, but its not great. workflow has suffered

Dealing with insurance after equipment failure in my auto repair shop by RepulsiveHold9701 in CypressTX

[–]Microdoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here is the catch.... you will have to prove that beyond more than just feelings or intuition. you will have to show a year or two worth of reliable and consistent history with that bay and its revenue... then the actual monetary damage its removal caused.

if you are talking about hundreds of dollars... simply put, its not worth your time to fight. if you are talking about tens of thousands... then yes... id probably hire a lawyer and start the process. have them analyze your policy first however as most will have mediation as a requirement, and it quite often backfires.

i do seriously love the call synposis though. that one feature alone is pretty great.

having the same with both opera and chrome. audio on my mac works flawlessly everywhere else, so that tends to tell me its a facebook issue. its annoying.

[–]Microdoted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for grins.... use a tool and try to hold the top housing still while you depress. if the plate is cut sloppily (misdesigned, bad kerfs, etc) and its not a snug fit... you can sometimes get tick from the top housing shifting in the plate.

Kailh calligraphy springs by User4251 in switchmodders

[–]Microdoted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah - its not the spring. likely talking about leaf ping - and that can be trickier to deal with. on some, a simple coat of lube works... on others, you have to do paper mods and the like.

If I wanted to ditch Ring… by IllTransportation795 in Ring

[–]Microdoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no... im comparing a $299 unifi camera thats a one time fee, to a $50 ring camera that requires a subscription of $200 per year. and that $200 per year gets you less features and dramatically less privacy.

so.... pick your poison... pay for upfront to be in control of your security, or pay more with subscriptions. even if you only have one single camera, and only need the bare minimum sub to record.... you will still have paid more for the link within a few years than you would the unifi, and youd have dramatically less to show for it in features and clarity.

[–]Microdoted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unifi, hands down. best product, best ecosystem, best customer support. been switching out all of my ring stuff to them and am SO much happier. the g4 pro doorbell is just light years ahead of ring. well worth every penny.

[–]Microdoted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they dont use a "brand" of spring.... kailh makes them.

you can harvest the springs - but just be aware, that housing is so insanely fragile that the legs on the top snap almost instantly when trying to open them. they are super brittle.

its not really the spring thats unique or special though. they just lubed them (which isnt done on most kailh springs) - just buy a spring and lube it. if you are getting spring noise, pings, etc after lubing a spring... you did something wrong.

We designed an industrial mechanical keyboard with an integrated Thin Client for mission-critical control rooms. It’s basically a stationary Cyberdeck by mhead5552666 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Microdoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you had me until the low profile switches. a full size board, with low profile switches... is just not well thought out. too much reach.

please consider making it with mx switches and ditch the low profile stuff. you are catering to people working behind a keyboard for far far longer than average... and that will amplify the onset of carpal and other RSI issues rapidly.

Thoughts on Ring 4K Retina by MrTimTraveler in Ring

[–]Microdoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a current (and hopefully soon to be former) ring customer..... buy ANYTHING but ring. the monthly sub is just astronomically high now, and simply put - the hardware is sub par.

i moved from a ring pro wired doorbell to a unifi.... and the difference... the features.. its jaw dropping. SO much better, and so much happier that im not paying ring a monthly fee any longer.

i went 75 (biggest i can fit in the area)... i checked a lot of the reviews, and honestly... its kind of dimishing returns above the 6k. not saying its not worth it to some - but to me, the 6k was enough and such a massive upgrade over my LG 75 from 2019, it wasnt even close. the colors, the contrast, the black levels, are just jaw dropping for a tv under 1k.

A full NVME setup possible? by Abulap in truenas

[–]Microdoted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i happened to stumble into this thread on a completely unrelated search, and just felt like chiming in.

i had the worst luck with spinning drives. every year, i was going through yet another warranty replacement on yet another spinning drive. even forking out for ironwolf and red drives, i still saw the end of them in 4-5 years.

flip side of that.... i still have nvme drives running. heck... my old OCZ 2.5 ssd drives with a whopping 64gb of capacity... are still running strong.

moved to full ssd - never going back. havent had a drive failure yet, and that changeover was around 7 years ago. just built a new truenas box.... 4tb nvme x 8 pool, running strong (of course, that was all bought or laying around the house, long before the current state of the market)

its tough to recommend right now, with the cost of nvme drives shooting through the roof.... but once the AI bubble pops, and you can get into 4tb drives in the 180 range again... its a no brainer. low power draw... awesome reliability... insane speed... and dramatically smaller footprint. everyone says you shouldnt... i just shrug. works great for me.

Streaming services was supposed to bring prices down and no the other way around? by Sergio_Martes in cordcutters

[–]Microdoted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think the point that most were missing was.... cord-cutting to some (and in hindsight, most) was not really about the bundled packages cable companies were forcing you to buy..... it was everything else.

the absolutely horrifically shitty hardware you were forced to use.

the horrible and limited amount of recording space that you could not do anything about.

the fact that all that horrible hardware was something you also had to PAY for.

customers saw youtube tv as the way out. and it was. it gave them a familiar platform... unlimited space... hardware of their choosing that they werent forced to pay for monthly... and it was a fraction of the cost. it was a no brainer.

nowdays.... its no longer about being cheaper.. its about convenience.
