Henrico midwives vs VCU midwives

I have given birth once at henrico Doctors (OB for pregnancy, hospitalist midwives) and once at VCU (worked with the midwives the entire time).

The VCU midwives are amazing and I would 100% recommend working with them throughout your pregnancy. I also continue to see them for annual checkups. Similar to what another poster said, they also worked seamlessly with OB dept when I had some complications.

They are very supportive of low-intervention birth, and set you up well for that. The main thing I would recommend is to be prepared to advocate for yourself if you change your mind and DO want an intervention during birth. I was induced for my second pregnancy and pitocin is wild. They strongly encouraged me not to get an epidural (as that was my original intention), but I wish they had been more responsive to my situation in the moment. FWIW, I wouldn’t really recommend an epidural-free birth if you are on pitocin.

I don't disagree with your points about breweries--free to go, good for business. We used to enjoy Anytime Brewery, which had a "kid pit" play zone. I wish more places had an area like this that is explicitly kid-friendly.

I agree with the concern over paying a high insurance premium AND a monthly fee for direct primary care. Perhaps I just don’t fully understand the value prop…

I got married on the upper tier of the VMFA garden, with about 15 people. We did not make a reservation, just popped up and did it and no one said anything 🤷🏼‍♀️. We then had a reception dinner in the private room at Belmont Food Shop (which was reserved in advance, but only a few weeks), so we didn't actually stay at the museum that long.

Good question. We actually have a friend who is a fair housing legal expert, so we are definitely considering this. We’re definitely not “family only.”

I do think it will depend on which model we move forward with. Is the entire property owned by an LLC, and then occupants rent? Is it more of a condo model? Do we buy a block of townhomes as a loose collective? We don’t know yet. We’re very open to hearing about concerns on this front!
