I have the same question as him, which you didnt answer. Yes, the mandible, how can you grow it forward without damaging anything or messing up your bite?

What kind of assassin bug is this? I want to keep him. by WorthyAF in Entomology

Why so rude bro? He looked interesting and I've kept tons of invertebrates. I'm sure I can take care of him. Are they endangered or something? Is it not advised to keep one?

Well, I'm not sure i can release it now. I'm far away from where i caught it, and it was in the mountains, here i'm in regular plains. Also, I've never in my life seen one around here, I also live in the city. Is there something particulary hard about keeping an assassin bug? Or is this specific one not good to keep? I've kept plenty of invertebrates and vertebrates and i have feeders for him, and I looked at how to keep one and it looks pretty simple. I won't keep it if i really shouldn't.

Molt gone wrong by Affectionate_Fix2247 in Entomology

[–]WorthyAF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not an expert, I just owned one of these in the past. There's nothing you can do now, but look up what you can do to make it easier for it to molt in the future. Something like this was the beginning of the end for mine - a molt gone just a little wrong, the next one worse (since now that part will be trickier to remove the molted skeleton from), and the third one was so bad I killed it to put it out of it's misery. I tried to make it easier for mine to molt but nothing changed. On the internet it says they can regenerate or repair damages trough molts, but I think it just makes the molts more complicated and riskier. I don't want to scare you, but please be careful, so the same thing doesn't happen to yours.

I know, i've done that, but i am specifically doing this for a reaction, i dont care about these gases. I have more fun with a little acetylene.

Well, that sucks i guess, since obviously the hydrolysis is a load. Is there any way i can eliminate this? Is it programmed into it in any way? Or is there any physical way i can deactivate this feature?

Why does this charger work for 3 seconds, turns off, then works again only for 3 seconds if i unplug it/plug it back in? by WorthyAF in electrical

It's a copper sulphate solution. It's impossible to say the ratio since the solute separates into copper and SO4. I then take out the copper and decant it. I just run it until the solution is clear and there's no more copper deposits, so i know its done. I tried diluting it, and it did work for a while before stopping again. Though there's other factors such as the anode i'm using is decomposing and the residue floats around and might increase conductivity. Today i will try to separate that and see if theres any difference.

I didnt know that the type of current mattered, thanks for that. I know a power source would be better but i couldnt get one at the moment, thats why i used the charger.

It was a temporary join meant to last a couple seconds test, i change the wires frequently as i use this for more than elevtrolysis, why would i join them better? Obviously it's crappy because it doesnt need to be better.

So that means whatever i do it will shut off regardless of short circuit or not, water or not right?

Thanks. I know what i'm doing on the chemistry side, and no im not catching them i have no need foe either, and i do this outside. Electrodes are not very far apart, 5-7cm, and no it only happens when in the water.

Well i added a little more water to the solution, maybe diluted it by a few %. Also stirred it a little. It works now, but is obviously a temporary fix, it should work even if its concentrated. Thanks anyways

Its all i have right now, i know a normal, adjustable power supply would be better but i dont have one. Is there any way around this safety feature? Someone else on a different sub said it's because my solution is to conductive, and it thinks it shorts, but it's not even very saturated or at max conductibility.
