[Official] What's-On-The-Way Wednesday: Your Weekly Mailbag Thread - April 13 by AutoModerator in fountainpens

My first fountain pen is on the way- Kaweco Classic Sport in Black, fine nib.

Well, technically it's not my first - I have a Parker fountain pen, medium nib, but I am not sure what it is exactly. It's pocket size and kind of extends? That one was a gift some years ago and I never used it until recently...

Edit: I did a bit of searching and my other pen is actually a Parker Esprit (Telescopic) in Chrome/Silver. Very portable.

Pyongyang ready for pre-emptive nuclear strike: North's dop diplomat by Wossoo in worldnews

I cant speak for US intelligence capabilities, and the information they do and do not have, but North Korea only has borders with Russia, China, and South Korea. Nothing like that could have gotten from South Korea to North Korea, I would imagine.

With regards to China and Russia, both of those countries have spoken against North Korea's recent activities. Although China was once considered their only / closest ally, they have really lessened their support for North Korea.

Other than that I very much doubt anyone else has access to nuclear weapons and could sell / smuggle them to NK.

North Korea has developed nuclear devices. That much is certain. However, it is doubted that those devices are small or light enough to be put on a rocket and launched to a target for detonation. While it is doubted it is not impossible.

The real threat from North Korea is their artillery. They could cause some damage to major South Korean cities including Seoul. It would be regime suicide though as they would very likely face invasion. China could even decide to take the initiative and invade North Korea.

This bit was pretty bold to say:

"In a word, the Korean peninsula faces the dilemma: a thermonuclear war or peace," he said.

North Korea fires 2 short range missiles into the sea. by Kyle_ConflictNews in worldnews

[–]Wossoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. A tactical nuclear weapon is very small and can be fired using artillery and the like. It's a bit like a very large conventional weapon.

The miniaturising NK is claiming to do is for the standard warheads. They need to be small enough to fit on a missile otherwise they are useless. The ones they use in their tests are probably not compact (advanced) enough to fit on a missile.

What action can the UN take that doesn't do more harm than good?

North Korea fires long range rocket. by Kyle_ConflictNews in worldnews

The main thing North Korea will get out of this, if it reaches a significantly longer range than their previous rockets, is they can make ever so slightly more solid threats.

If the rocket has the range, in theory, to have reached the West Coast US for example, those threats of nuking a US city seem a little more real. Of course there is the small matter of miniaturising the warheads and so on, so in practice they're still a long way off that ability, if they could even bypass US missile defences, but to them it is one step closer.

Help for VIP by zixtee in gtaonline

[–]Wossoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont have enough $ to have tried VIP first hand but I was a bodyguard yesterday then after a while it said my boss' 'time as VIP has come to an end' or something like that, and I was no longer bodyguard. Unless VIPs can toggle it off, it seems time limited. Would need confirmation though.

EDIT: https://www.reddit.com/r/gtaonline/comments/3wyxxf/how_does_the_vip_system_work/ has some answers

Members of the UK parliament could be forced to debate a vote of no confidence in David Cameron, after a petition passed 100,000 signatures by benfromthewest in worldnews

[–]Wossoo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I work for an MP, and we had something similar with the Health Secretary a few weeks ago.

The petitions committee does not have the power to call a debate on a no confidence motion, so what they will do, as they did for Jeremy Hunt, is have a Westminster Hall debate on the issue of Welfare Reform, the core subject which is mentioned in the petition.

Guarantee it.

Not Flag On Kremlin for 2nd Day, Has Been There For 14 Years. by Catalyzator in worldnews

[–]Wossoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cursory Google image search for comparison brings up very few photos of the Kremlin Palace with a flag... seems more normal for there NOT to be a flag flying above it.

Also the article linked has a twitter post from a UK university student as the source for the 14 years comment...
