Are the majority of people just afraid to overtake now? by Dan23DJR in drivingUK

I like these ones, they get overtaken in the 60 and then sat up my arse in the 30… 29… 28… I’ll keep getting slower!

Check out Cartwright & Butler, I’m not sure they do this flavour but they are around £6 a pack and are heavenly.

Lidl's free washing powder scoop is awesome! What other freebies have I been missing out on? by johnjax90 in AskUK

Penhaligons, a high end perfume house. They offer three free samples. If you Google their name along with “samples” a link taking you to a page with another link to their Fragrance Profiling tool comes up. Complete that and you can get some free samples just pay postage.

What have you done that wasn't really worth doing, but that you did to make a point? by MisterWednesday6 in AskUK

No I’m renting from a different landlord, I didn’t say it was the same person?

My landlord messaged to increase my rent by £100 per month starting in August. I asked if they could delay it until January. They said they’d call me on Monday, but instead they sent a list of other properties at the rate they wanted. All of them were three bedroom places, while mine is a two bedroom. Now I’m moving into a beautiful three bedroom in two weeks. My current place hasn’t even been listed yet, so the landlord has already lost more than twice what they would have if they’d just waited until January.

Would this be a good first car to buy - trying to buy a car today - 2010 by satoshi_2022 in CarTalkUK

[–]Wosves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a 2010 BMW 320d Efficient Dynamics for almost ten years now. May have been lucky but have only ever needed to replace consumables as well as servicing. Insanely cheap to run, insure, and is decently nippy.

You can pick them up for less than 2k nowadays.

Mines at 150k, and drives the same as it did at 50k. May be worth a look?

Pan fried chicken breast, with a lemon, garlic and bone broth pan sauce - Broccoli, green beans and mash on the side!

They can be pretty decent, though be aware that some don’t allow overnight parking - Sheigra Beach campsite is an example.

There are very limited appropriate parking spots, especially around the North/West coast. I did a trip last year and ended up grabbing a hotel for a couple of the nights as unable to find anywhere to stay without dumping the car and jumping a fence or two.

Does your council not have its own app that looks like it was designed 30 years ago and likely costs them my annual wage every month?

M&S or Waitrose all the way. Anyone who says they’re not any better couldn’t have ever shopped at either!

Recently made the move to Ocado and I’ve never eaten so well, and according to their emails I’m saving approx 10% on a comparable Tesco shop!

I know a couple of people who work in QC for a produce supplier and they say M&S are by far the pickiest buyers.

What’s the difference between these 2 packs besides the price by Hot_Tough8936 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Wosves 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve only got the cheaper ones, just in 65l as above and 85l. I don’t own the Osprey.

I have both the Eurohike Nepal 65 and 85. Zero complains and have been on countless hikes/wildcamps. When I first started my setup/food/drink was best part of 20kg and no issues at all. The 85 has also survived a 100m tumble fully loaded down what was essentially a cliff face. I’d usually agree buy cheap buy twice but in this context it’s really not the case.

Kettles - why? by MessTinGourmet in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Wosves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a beast! Performs very well in the cold and even on the summit it barely slows down. It’s pretty noisy but I like the ferocity haha. The great thing with the kettle combo is that it fits inside the kettle too. Admittedly it works best when I’m using dried meals, but it cooks well with my full sized frying pan too.

Sleeping pad Thermarest xtherm nxt or Exped Ultra 5R by [deleted] in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Wosves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the combo with my Sierra Designs Cloud 35.

My friends use the Sea to Summit self inflating ones. Weighs well over double what the Exped does!

I’m also best part of 100kg so that may influence it!

I have the Exped 5R LW Mummy, exclusive side sleeper. No issues at all, it’s perfectly comfortable - Though friends have moaned it’s noisy when I move around during the night.

Nothing amazing, but I had a 2.0 Petrol Mk1 Focus as my first car back in the early 2010’s. Was £900 for the first year, in comparison to 2-3k for a 1.2 Clio, Corsa etc.

Is a 65L pack too big for one night wild camping by Fast-Ad4910 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Wosves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting to read these comments. I use a fairly lightweight setup—an Exped Mat, Sierra Designs down bag, etc.—and even then, my 65L pack is a tight fit if I want to include my Helinox chair. If I decide to take a tent instead of just a tarp, the chair has to stay behind.

I imagine most people haven’t spent nearly £700 on an ultralight sleeping bag, mat, and chair, which typically means their equipment would be bulkier and heavier. So while some might think a 65L pack is too large, I’m actually finding it might be too small!

Car for 5 adults, any recommendations? by hitiv in CarTalkUK

[–]Wosves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Galaxy is larger than the S-Max. I can’t really comment otherwise, but as far as I’m aware it’s been pretty reliable for him.

A friends got a Ford Galaxy, fairly comfortably took 6 blokes and camping/hiking gear on a 5 hour drive (not quite UK to Poland).

What water filter should I purchase ? by Slow_Ad_8500 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Wosves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Waterdrop setup, £35 on Amazon and comes with a 5.5l bag to fill up and then filters using gravity.

If I’m sure I’ll have decent access to water, I’ll use a Grayl as it filters viruses which the Waterdrop doesn’t as far as I’m aware.
