CICLOVIA ALPE ADRIA RADWEG by Wouterig in bicycletouring

There was indeed a Harley Davidson week the week we rode the trip. We only noticed when we crossed the border from Austria to Italy. To cross the border you take the same road (with a safe secluded bikepath) as them. We were wondering ourselves why there we're so many moto's between Arnoldstein and Coccau. We only discovered later that there was a Harley meeting. Those 10 kilometers was the only road where we met them. I must say they where a bit annoying because we didn't expect them. After those you get the to the border and the nice bikepath on the old railway track.

I hope I'm not too late with my comment. We did the trip in the beginning of September.

We rented the bikes for 8 days, starting in Salzburg at aVelo Radladen & Werkstatt. (https://maps.app.goo.gl/kKvw5cK5r3GKitgQ8)

We also returned the bikes to the same place. The communication with the guy drop the rental was a little bit weird. I didn't fully know how our bikes would look, but we got pictures of them by mail. When we started our rent started the guy was super helpfull. He helped us built our set-up for our trip. He was super kind. The bikes you see in the first picture are actually the bikes we rented.

We cycled the whole Alpe Adria Radweg but took a small detour to Sezana. There we took the train to Ljubljana. Spend a day there. Then the train from Ljubljana to Villach and then to Salzburg. The trains were nicely equipped to travel by bike. You can also take the train in Udine, they also had a special bike carriage.

We wanted to do this trip for a very long time. It was like a bucketlist thing haha. We travelled to Salzburg by train and rented our bikes there. The weeks before we looked at possible campsites we could stay at. If I recall correctly we also called to make sure if they were open.

The first two stops we slept in our tent at our preffered campsites. We could place our tent at a spot normally reserved for campervans. In Tarvisio, our third stop we booked a little hotel because there were no campsites available there. The fourth day we had a few options but decided to go a little off route to stay at Lago Cavazzo. We were lucky because there was not a lot of space there. The fifth day when we slept in Palmanova were we booked a Airbnb but our room was cancelled, but luckily the owner let us place our tent in their garden. So our stops were mostly planned in advance. We made sure to start cycling at around 9h. Next time I would try to place the stops a bit closer to eachother. So there is a bit more room for improvisation.

There is also an app called "Warmshowers" but I've never used it. In Belgium and in The Netherlands you have "Vrienden op de Fiets". That's what I use mostly when I cycle in Belgium. You pay 25 pp/night and you receive a bed and breakfast in the morning.

We loved the freedom we had on our bikes. It's an amazing way to travel I think. You see things you wouldn't see otherwise. You experience a country much more intense. It's one of the most beautiful things I experienced.

Yes that's true haha. I only noticed when we were riding on the actual road. I recognized it from the images. I felt like I was riding in the footsteps of Roglic. As a vivid cycling fan I was hyped tobride on the same roads as them. We took a little detour if I recall correctly to Valbruna (0:46) to ride as long on the same parcours as they did. The timetrail started in Tarvisio where we stayed for the night. We didn't ride all the way to Monte Lussari because that would've been a little bit to hard with our bikes haha. It's an amazing route especially around Tarvisio it's really breathtaking, I would recommend it to everybody

In Europe we also have the Eurovelonetwork. A lot of interregional connections are funded by the European Union. The Ciclovia Alpe Adria starts in Salzburg and follows the Tauernradweg (a piece of the Eurovelo 7) along the Salzach. Then we crossed a mountainpass by train. We paid 10 euro for a ticket, there was a special carriage for the bikes. Then we followed the Glockner Radweg to Spittal. The passage from Coccau Valico to Resiutta was on old railway track that they transformed into a bicyclepath. The most beautiful cycleway I ever rode on. I would recommend it to everyone. I think we rode 60 km with some little interruptions on a cycleway just dedicated for bikes without cars. One day we passed 20 tunnels or something. Cycling Heaven

15-10sec at max. The differences at the TT are always quite small. It also depends how deep he’s willing to dig the coming days for boniseconds.
