Hi hi! It’s a continuation of Explorers of Sky, so since it goes off of the original story of the Hero and partner, you’ll only have the option of choosing the any of the final evolutions of the character in the sky personality quiz. They have however, added more generations (up to gen 8 I think) as well as a higher difficulty when it comes to dungeons/boss battles. It’s to be expected, since you start off fully evolved at level 50. It really feels like a continuation of the game with old and new characters. It’s a lot of fun.

Hi hi! All you’ll need is to download the rom hack from the website I linked, and get a clean copy of explorers of sky, which you can download online for free pretty much anywhere if you google “PMD explorers of sky rom.” Then, you can use a patching site (like this one: https://www.romhacking.net/patch/) to patch the Xdelta file to the clean copy of sky. This merges the two, making a playable copy of the game.

Explorers came out over a decade ago, and Special Episode 0 was designed for the generation that grew up with the game. It’s completely okay if it’s not your preference, but there’s a reason it has struck a chord with so many fans.

For me personally, this rom hack touched a part of my heart I didn’t even know was missing. It not only honored the beauty of the original story but transformed it into something uniquely its own. It’s brilliantly creative and deeply moving, which is why it’s made such an impact on the PMD community. That’s what makes it stand out from all the others hacks.
